Weekly poll: Are in-display fingerprint readers the future?

19 August 2018
We've gotten used to fingerprint readers on the back, but mid-range phones with in-display readers are incoming. Is it just a fad?

Sort by:

Personally, don't care where it is as long as it is present. Sure, facial recognition works (like in the iPhone) but fingerprint is still more secure. I don't believe the BS that faceID is more secure than fingerprint (twins and children can often fool FaceID, while twins and children have unique fingerprints).

The photo tool has already samples of Note 9.
I also chose U12+ and XZ2 to compare.
        Both do better.

The aim of finger print scanner is to make phon... moreExcept for the fact that not everyone (like me) can afford a new screen or look for free technical support everywhere. There is where your logic fails, we have cracked screens because we like to, is because we have no option.

Probably they are the future, because manufacturers appear to embrace almost anything that they can represent as innovative, regardless of its technical merit.

So far, in display fingerprint readers offer reduced security, a slower response, higher cost, and compromised display durability, while not improving anything, unless front-facing sensors and maximal screen to body ratios are both absolute requirements.

is it true that if you use an underscreen fps with greasy finger. All someone has to do is dust the screen with talc or cinnamon and it unlocks due to the sweaty finge print already on the screen and your just darkening it over so it unlocks?

I don't mind where it is, as long as it's fast & reliable & it can still recognise my toes ; )

Slide to unlock is the best as I don't have any secret information. Fingerprint reader is cool but not for me.

                        In display works perfectly

In-display FPS is the next step.
There are benefits with this practice.
Possibilites are endless. this will also help for improving water-ingression by limiting the need for holes or placement on the physical body as it will be underneath the screen.

for price to performance normal finger print is faster and more secure then the under display one (since it is sLOT easier to copy your finger prints of the glass)and a LOT cheaper tho back mounted sensors may touch the camera lens (not unless you had a side mounted camera) and don't allow you to unlock the phone upside down and Front mounted have smaller serfice and looks ugly and side mounted are usely hard to use
so why must people voted for front mounted?
they are sheeps more then humans ]P
don't vote for some thing that looks cool thinking you will have it use God's greatest gift
                            your brain ):

I like back-mounted. But honestly anything would do if it's quick and reliable.

As far as I know, back-mounted is the easiest to fix, front-mounted comes second, and under the screen is the hardest to service which adds to costs. Also, they're not as fast, but they're improving.

It always feels as if companies try to find ways to justify the upward trend of costs.

well , in display fingerprint reader is cool , so i'd go for yes

Anonymous, 19 Aug 2018in screen fingerfrint is a nice gimmick but does it really ... moreIts not a gimmick. It‘s there if you want a front fingerprint and full screen at the same time. Same for under screen cameras and speakers.

I far prefer fingerprint scanners on the back, especially NOT on the display. My screen has enough fingerprint smudges on it as it is thanks.
