    Funny thing is Adreno 630 is still the theoretically superior to G76 mp10 . (According to the projected frame rates by Annanndtech)
    Next year Adreno will crush those results anyway.
    And Samsung next exynos will come with more gpu cores as usual leaving Huawei behind in demanding games.

      They will still lag behind apple in terms of chipset power.
      Apple will beat them to releasing the worlds first 7nm chipset.
      Huawei still lags behind in software updates and customer support.

                    If they want to beat 855 they should make a SoC thats atleast 50% better than current gen Snapdragon in both CPU and GPU especially the latter, it will be overtaken by 856 soon

                      GSMArena should correct something.. CPU performance is 37% higher than SD845, not Kirin 970. For example, Referential Geekbench Single scores are 1. Kirin 980 - 3360 2. SD 845 - 2452 3. Kirin 970 - 1950 (that is ~75% higher performance). GPU comparison was against Kirin 970 though and is 46% performance more.
                      Two catch points here..
                      1. Huawei purposefully avoided Exynos 9810 in CPU comparison which has Geekbench number of 3750+ (12% higher than Kirin 980. P.S: Exynos is 8% higher clocked as well) and is currently Android's top realm.
                      2. Again on GPU comparison, they left comparison with their own Kirin 970 and says it has 46% more power. Kirin 970 is already behind on SD845 with margin of 40-45%. So the ballpark of Kirin 980 should match Adreno 630 and may not exceed them even though it got latest G76 cores.

Arm projection is 50% performance increase per mm2, probably for smaller cluster count & in the best case. G76 is roughly 50~60% bigger than G72 but MALI clusters doesn't scale better. We could say how number of 178% is performance per W combined with slight higher clock & on 7nm FinFET when compared to the G72 on 10nm as found on Kirin 970. This brings us to 78% incres in performance per W. Still giving the size of the GPU & how the 7 nm first gen TSMC will have only 30% density increase or 25% lower power consumption gate per gate compared to their 10nm FinFET actually brings us to how G76 MP10 on Kirin 980 will have a little higher power consumption than G72 MP12 on Kirin 970. But we will find out more at the end of October hopefully.

                                        And this is obviously more powerful than the previous G72 on the kirin 970.

                                        So, more performance at the same consumption, you normalice to the previous kirin's FPS on manhattan or some other benech and voàla, you have a pretty number to brag in a presentation.


                                        BTW, its a G76mp10 @same frecuency than last year.

                                        On anandtech have more numbers from the show.
