HiSilicon Kirin 980 is the world's first 7nm chipset, 37% faster than its predecessor

31 August 2018
It's also the first chipset support 2133MHz LPDDR4X memory and gets the brand new Mali-G76 GPU.

the best ist you do not need a battey anymore becouse the GPU saves 178% more power... so 100% means zero power consumtion und 178% means 78% left to feed the processor and the dispay... endless fun without charging anymore... the "perpetuum mobile" is finally invented... suuuuuuuper...

.alpha, 31 Aug 2018Kirin 980 is the 1st announced but A12 would be the 1st ava... moreWell, currently, the SD845 is among the fastest Android processors, so flagship phone companies now will put it in ther $800+ phones. When Qualcomm releases the 855, we'll have a lot more competition and maybe it will be better than the Kirin 980.

Someone really Illiterate made that presentation, as usually for Huawei. So for instance "the GPU outperforms the previous generation by 46% and saves 178% more power". If something uses 100% less power it doesn't use any at all.

I am against the more clusters dewing into more CPU levels as the process migration all tho faster on DinamiQ is still costly, besides it's utterly stupid to make separate performance - mid cores as you can achieve the same effect with just setting one or two brakes based on utilisation levels on the good old interactive governor (which by the way Huawei continued to use up to date).

Two NNPU's? For what? I am certain one bigger one would be either more power efficient or faster (depending what you want to achieve). I still see them in generally as black silicone & prefer DSP's optimised and for NPU tasks.

There is much contravention about the Kirin 980 GPU so far; from that it will be an G72 MP 24 to that it's G76. One thing is certain if its a G76 it certainly won't be a MP24 as G76 cluster is considerably bigger than A72 to achieve performance per area goals ARM did marketing for it.

Huawei is spending far too much money for marketing instead for R&D probably thinking we are all stupid.

Time for some math crunching numbers~!
According to Huawei, Kirin 980 is better by 37% in preformance comparing to 970.
Since we know AGS (Avarage Geekbench Score) Rests at 1950:
        1. Single: 1950x1.37=2671 points.
        Multi: 6700x1.37= 9179
Huawei claims they are 20% more efficient than leaders. Since they DO NOT refer to Snapdragon or Exynos. I would ASSUME they do, as they are the highest preforming chips closest to the trailblazing 980.
        2. APC rate (APC: Avg Power consumption, unit is mAh/min): 845 is around 6.04/18.97/42.3 (min/typical/peak)
        9810 is: 5.98/19.62/49.01
By calculating the avarage of these values It's estimated that-
        980: 4.99/15.01/55(?).
And not to mention GPU preformance. There are 24 cores of G72, assuming they are close to Exynos 9810's clock rates. I can safely estimate 30% better preformance comparing to S9fam/note 9.
As for Adreno, just 18% better.
These are calculations that I did based on experiments done on 845/9810. Please take them with a spoon of salt, and not take them as official data! Nor argue on these. As I said these are ESTIMATIONS!

But its pretty sure to assume that apple had it worked first as they need much much more SoCs to be produced for their launch.

And seems like anandtech was right, the A76 its a very power hungry chip so they opted for a kryo (820) aproach... which doesnt provide any benefit at all.

                  "First 7nm chip"

It will came out after the A12 lol

Kirin 980 is the 1st announced but A12 would be the 1st available. Still, both are far superior to any Snapdragon making people paying $800+ for SD 845 idiots.

Anonymous, 31 Aug 2018Must now be as fast as 835In raw processing power, even the 960 beat the SD835, but QC still has better GPUs. Hopefully, that will start changing soon.

Saves 178% more, compared to what? If the previous one only saved 1 minute worth compared to whatever it is it's not particularly impressive? :)
These companies loves leaving a lot of blanks to get the amazing numbers in the PR... for instance, every Nvidia or AMD card is infinitely faster than their respective previous generation. On paper.
