Sony mobile got no market at my place, everyone go for iphone, samsung or huawei. Expensive price , when the time want to trade no value at all, plus sony already sold their very stylish laptop division, so bad just like how htc try to survive.

Showing off too much? Is it their fault that the phone is so amazing that it gets a lot of attention? It's probably the only worthy flagship that was announced in the event.
Yep, even if Note 9 was there, XZ3 would still get the true spotlight due to its much more meaningful improvements like the switch to curved QHD+ OLED screen, 13MP 1/3.06" f/1.9 AF front camera, 20% louder stereo speakers, slimmer design with aluminium 7000 series frame, larger battery, etc.

The winners are those brand never show the latest flagships on IFA 2018 because they miss the chance to show off themselves, while the biggest loser is Sony because they show off too much!

nik.007, 09 Sep 2018XZ3 is an upgrade to the XZ2, definitely. But is is still ... moreI dont judge displays by resolution or technology and my argument is, 1080p is more than enough for any smartphone (no matter screen size) and there is no person who can see individual pixels at arms length. If u pixel peep at nose length, then sure u can see them, but that is not how 99.999% are using their phones. Only argument for screen resolution for me is if someone REALLY wants to use smartphone as VR, then higher is definetly better. And for screen technology I really do not get why people are jumping on OLED screens so hard for smartphones and consider them as "only flagship option" because reality is, IPS screens are amazing too. If you are reading this on PC chance is its IPS display, what professionals use? IPS displays. OLED are great too, but both have their ups and downs and there is no reason to limit on just one for "flagship" phones. I also do not get why people correlate oversaturated colors (of any manufacturer) with more quality (either camera or display). Just my 2 cents :D

Although there was some disappointment on this IFA 2018 (way-less than we had thought) , at least for me , i agree with 40% majority here , there's no winner(s) or loser(s) here . Why you ask ? They did all their best with something can't be denied here , no matter what the current condition they had now , for its company itself or the phone announced there , even it's not your expectations or hopes in the first bet .
XZ3 did its best to make a perfect Xperia device from most people request since Xperia Z5 haydays , by implementing OLED from their successful Bravia lineup , Scene Recognition 2.0 aka AI in Xperia , first front-facing stereo speakers device to reach more than 80% STB , the perfect Ambient Flow recipes after it was over on XZ2 series , etc. While HTC U12 Life bringing back the 3.5mm jack to life after wrong-taking decision since HTC 10 Evo , Axon 9 Pro marked the return of ZTE after those debacles , tho it's now different , LG G7 One proves a solid Android One device with something rare on its category such IP68 and military standard protection , BlackBerry unveiled the more-reachable price Key2 LE for the rare hardware keyboard phones on its own market , Huawei with its first 7nm processor , Kirin 980 , which marks the next configuration nm for CPU, especially for phones and their Mate 20 & Pro, and Motorola One-One Power , while the design doesn't to be appealing , succeeding the Moto X4's Android One Program is a good thing on Android One fate , now entering the V2.0 after Xiaomi Mi A1 proves a lightning towards OEM of Android .

nik.007, 09 Sep 2018XZ3 is an upgrade to the XZ2, definitely.
But is is still ... more1080p IPS LCD is HDR capable and comes with Bravia Technology that enhances image quality significantly as compared to typical 1080p IPS LCD SDR screens, and it was also utilized by iPhones 'til last year, and even today with the 6.1" iPhone. Take note, I'm talking about $1000 flagships here. The XZ2 only costs $750 at launch.
QHD AMOLED of the other brands are plagued with flaws. The best one is from Samsung, but it's not flawless either.
The Note 9 had the best QHD+ AMOLED screen 'til the XZ3 came in. The RGB matrix alone already makes it superior to any other OLED screens with Diamond PenTile matrix in the market, including the Note 9's.
Note 9 is a different purpose device. It's more or less competing with the likes of the XZ2 Premium, while XZ3 is competing more against the S9+. And in the comparisons, the Xperias are better than their Galaxy competitors.

I live in the era of Trinitron, Walkman, CyberShot and Sony Ericsson. They are AMAZING as hell. All of them, 'til Apple took the storm with iPod and its cheapo clones. Funny thing is I never interested by Xperia line-up because of inconsistency. Sony isn't the same smartphone brand anymore to 90's younglings.

Sony XZ3 in winner section? The company that defined trends sometimes back is now a follower! Sony has improved the software part well (speedy and up to date Android experience) but hardware? 13 Mpx (XZ1) is improvement to 5 Mpx (XZ2), DUAL camera stays with XZ2 Premium, Fingerprint location is trash and the storage option at the price is 2015. Waiting for them to correct or bleed money and then dispose the smartphone division with some lame excuse (like the one for 3.5 mm audio jack). Other than that, IFA didn't have much to go for it with some good launches from HTC, LG, etc.

BeObjective, 09 Sep 2018I am no fanboy of any smartphone manufacturer, I always buy... moreXZ3 is an upgrade to the XZ2, definitely.
But is is still behind in terms of what other brands offer.
For example, they used 1080p LCD on their 6 month old flagship when other major brand had a QHD Amoled, and still it was priced as good as others.
Note9 is a less major upgrade to the Note8 than what the XZ3 is to the XZ3, but still the Note9 is a much better device than the XZ3.

I think it would have been better if Sony released the XZ3 as the XZ2 Premium. Imagine the XZ3, with a dual camera set up of the premium, 6GB RAM and a 3540 mAh.

Totally agree there are no winners and losers. and all the designs are really the same from year before and so on. It seems the mobile market in design is stagnated. and everyone is just bringing a 5.8" -6.2" LCD or OLED 18:9 ratio screen phones. the only diffence on most is the speed of cpu and ram. and maybe the odd megapixel more on the camera.
So what needed is a fresh design and new look to mobiles. i not sure if the folding phones will catch on. but that could the option we need.

Big companies like Samsung and Huawei can afford to release phones whenever they like at big press conferences of their own... small players need IFA for coverage

"The Triluminos display is beloved by many and indeed looks stunning in person, but despite how much it has improved over the years, it felt like Sony was getting left behind. Earlier this year we saw it jump to 18:9, though still at 1080p resolution. Last week the company finally acknowledged that QHD is a thing."
Cough* Cough* 4K Triluminous Display. And Anyways, even at 1080p, the triluminous is the best one at multimedia.
