As manufacturers strive towards smartphones with all screen displays, we look at how manufacturers are differentiating themselves to pull away from the pack.

Semi modular with good repairability. Say no to archaic business models. Also please kill the glue fetish.

    I am waiting for dual notch phones with front facing stereo speakers. Left and right side of notch will house onscreen back and multitasking keys. For home, you'll need to swipe up from middle. It is the future.

      It depends what apple gonna do. Anyway all the Chinese will copy as much as they can.
      And very interesting what Samsung will come out with next year.

            Foldable screen of course. I hope they bring back the boxy design. Get rid of the round edges and glass back

              go back to 16:9 screen, with metal unibody, and fingerprint scanner on the home button, andddd single camera

                off course the most desirable is a full display .....no motorize camera module ....but it has front camera with good picture quality.
                combine with all sensors like Iris scanner inside glass, and so on.

                and don't forget great proportion off round corner.

                    If flexible devices work, then the notches, curved edge, or even motorized camera will be out in months.

                      That Hubblephone looks super fragile at the hinge. Shiny and all but once broken there are two screen/parts to fix.

                        Foldable phones.
                        Just like Motorola clamshell phones before. :)

                              Google knew Windows could grow and be a threat somehow for Android.
                              So yea, no Google ecosystem at all on windows.

                              On the other hand, Google is really supportive for iOS and KaiOS becuase they know these OS will never be taking Android place.

                                Beyond physical design, future smartphones will heavily rely on software differentiation to sell consumers on a “unique feel”. It’s also important to realize that every smartphone manufacturer in the market has allowed other manufacturers to influence and inspire their own designs, both in software and hardware. That’s definitely not a bad thing, but it largely contributes to all these smartphone look-alikes. As for “the next big thing” in smartphone evolution? It might sound cheesy or impossible, but I think it’ll be holographic displays of some sort. Phones and computers have always been about DISPLAYING information, so it makes sense that our current generation displays get one-upped by something more immersive. Color accuracy and pixel density are only incremental iterative upgrades to display tech that’s been with us for decades. For smartphones to evolve, we’ll need to re-imagine the way we consume visual information.

It may be similar to how were first smartphones, even if with most of body looking the same (screen), small details will make difference, surely there will be brands that want to stand out

                                        Bleh Bleh Bleh, wow, flip phones, again, so original, and how long do you think your early version folding display will work for and how good a display do you think it will be.
                                        Someone just build an up to date, cutting edge spec tablet, 7 inch screen size, sell it cheap and wait for half the world to try and buy one, stuff the poncey rich gits, build them a phone out of compressed dog crap, they would still buy it, so they have something to pin their pointless lifestyles to, instead of having a life, sad gits...
