So only for Note 9 and S9, when is Note 8 getting Pie?

Realistic1, 08 Oct 2018As someone who used an S8 and waited for Oreo till March 20... more...And do not be too surprised if it is delayed so long that S8 goes out of its two years support window and thus do not get it...

Alien , 08 Oct 2018Thank you! It is off but I still get that icon on the navb... moreYou can both disable and uninstall WITHOUT root. All it requires is a PC (or mac i guess) and the ADB that can be fetched from google.

The objective Guy, 08 Oct 2018Yes, the flagships and upper midrangers get regular securit... moreThank you for your response friend. Just wanted to know how Samsung treats software support. Sure, I may wrong and many here are free to disagree and debate, but in my opinion, regular security updates and UI optimisations are more important than OS updates. In any case the custom UIs of Samsung, Xiaomi's MIUI and others have had the features that stock Android won't have or will be bringing only in future OS updates. As a result some OEM UIs have more out of the box features and are more user friendly than stock Android that will need you to root or run ADB for very routine conveniences available out of the box in some OEM UIs/ROMs. I have an ancient entry-level Redmi that's on 7.1, but with the latest MIUI and the September security patch. I'd rather have regular security updates, and lag-free feature and interface optimisation rather than first-day, first-show OS updates. I am sure stock Android as Google intended works for many. But Google isn't the sole or the best interpretor of how Android should be. There are different and better things out there if people look instead of jumping about with "My phone is first". I am looking forward to the Samsung S10 family that is said to have a Mini/Lite version. If it's a compact phone with a flat screen and regular UI and security updates, I'd very much have that as my next phone even if its slow with Google OS updates.

E , 08 Oct 2018Slow OS updates apart, do Samsungs get regular security updates? Yes, the flagships and upper midrangers get regular security patches.
My Note 8 is on September's patch, I usually receive the patches on second or third week of each month.
My previous phone was a Galaxy S7 and it was also on time regarding security patches

Slow OS updates apart, do Samsungs get regular security updates?

Kingslayer, 08 Oct 2018App switching is very important to me daily because I need ... moreI just watched a Youtube video about Pie on Pixel 2 and my points are still valid. Rounded corners are more prominent on Samsung's UI though. They should really tone it down.

Hey, lets stop playing the blame game. It doesn't matter who copied whom. My main concern is this new Pie material design looks awfully similar to iOS. It looks like Android is losing its identity.

Sonu4678, 08 Oct 2018I'm not a big fan of gestures. I'm fine with previous setup... moreApp switching is very important to me daily because I need to check my Dasher app and then back to the Maps or whatever else app I could be using. Swiping up on the pill button is feels more satisfying than double tap to recent button. I also think PiP is much better. I can watch YouTube or Netflix while still browsing using Kiwi.

Apple COPIED webOS. Make no mistake about it. They copied Matias Duarte's baby. The same Matias Duarte who moved to Google back in 2010. Pie's battery manager improved SOT. The new emojis are sweet. To me, Oreo was one of the worst updates since Lollipop. Marshmallow, Nougat, and Pie are all better updates.

You need to experience stock Android. Samsung's skin is like Xiaom's MIUI. It doesn't give you how Google envisions Android should be. Samsung just adds calories to it when we should trim the real mean from the fat. It's like condom sex. Less pleasure.

Android Pie on Samsung looks ugly

Also i wasn't talking about just gestures rather the whole theme. What's up with the horizontal app switcher? What's up with the rounded corners? It just looks so unoriginal to me.

Geric.770, 08 Oct 2018Samsung: Great on everything except software... Updates! These new software updates are bringing so little changes that it is not even important anymore. And Samsung is not so bad, not the fastest one but still have updates.
But of course it is always nice to have latest software but personally for me security updates are much more important.

                        Note 8

Sonu4678, 08 Oct 2018With Android Pie, Google has finally managed to make it an ... morePie > Oreo

Oreo was terrible on battery life. PiP wasn't refined yet. And I've been used to touch gestures since 2013 on Android that swiping up at the pill button is more intuitive than a home button.

With Android Pie, Google has finally managed to make it an iOS lookalike. I'm really hating this material design. Android is losing its identity.
Samsung is being Samsung, doing things at their pace. I'll hold on to Oreo as long as i can. I don't think Pie is coming with any new features, it's mostly visual overhaul.

The UI is really not beautiful in my opinion, looks like it belongs to a toy.

Everybody is complaining about samsung slow updates. But if you look carefully it’s the same apple or pixel’s approach. Let me explain:
Android is an open source os. So oem have theirs own release date. Samsung release s-series update jan-feb every year. If you look carefully it’s the same approach with apple who release every year in september. Sure google release update earlier august-september but oems have theirs own customisations and strategy. Touchwiz is very heavy and need some tweaks. And don’t forget samsung release new s-series mid feb-march so they have forced to keep the new samsung experience for the newest phone.

Alien , 08 Oct 2018Really? With pm uninstall or pm hide? Turning on my Linux... moreYou need root to uninstall system apps. Those commands will just disable the apps (the same thing you can do from the apps info setting).

                                    Samsung:
Great on everything except software... Updates!
