It looks like three of the cameras are from the Galaxy A7 (2018), the tele camera is new.

Most especially Nokia, with a massive 40MP 1/1.2" sensor (larger than the Note 9's dual cameras combined together) that brought near full-APS C sensor image quality on smartphones.
Multiple cameras brought almost nothing but oversharpening and meaningless 2x optical zoom (a large high quality sensor could achieve the same results).

Anonymous, 10 Oct 2018OnePlus does not have telephoto. Both have same focal length OnePlus 5 did have 2x optical zoom lens, but it was controversial for being just 1.6x and the remaining 0.4x was just a digital crop to achieve the promised 2x zoom.
They dropped the idea with the 5T and never used it again until today.

        don't suppose they'd install a mechanical aperture?

Shanti Dope, 10 Oct 2018Hiw about the idea of interchangeable smartphone camera len... moreYour idea about having a Single Camera with multiple lenses of varying apertures is pretty stellar. I should add that the sensor should have super fast speed readout (120fps at Full Res). Also if they could do with a moving CFL (colour filter layer), on the lines of something that moved very fast like a shutter. That way they could get 2 1/2 the amount of light and a lot more detail in the the B&W mode ((than a coloured camera), combine that with the results with the colour filter to get colour camera that has as much detail and is as good in low light as a black and white camera.

Smartphone cameras haven't even begun scratching the surface of smartphone computational photography, as of yet.

It looks good and for a mid ranger too. But do we really need all these cameras on one handset. Huawie started this trend by having two cameras and everyone apart from Google followed.

Even though I have a Note 9 I still dont see the point of 2 cameras and Nokia aka HMD are roumored to have 5 on the rear alone. It's gone crazy.

Well telephoto camera can blur the background but the photo is zoomed. Maybe the depth sensor is for those who want to blur the background without zooming?

The 4th camera should house a monochrome sensor for better low-light performance, like what XZ2 Premium did.

Depth camera is redundant, the only purpose is camera count race.

Before, it was the race to megapixel count. Now, it's how many camera sensors you can put together on a smartphone. Funny.

Instead of wasting the space on putting 3, 4, 5 cameras in the phone, they should put just one camera with a huge sensor (like Nokia N8 and 808 did). Size of the sensor is much more important for the quality of photos than the number of cameras

The world has gone crazy about cameras and selfies, i really can't understand what all this fuss about and why would even the above average user need such extreme camera set up. Is it that the world has become so ugly that people find the urge to make it look better through advanced cameras and filtering software?
