all the manufacturer are forced to manufacture the device that always stays on and collect data for real-time profiling, all future designs are forced to perform to always stay on and stream data with "transparent to user", so the marketing will say, eliminating all aspect of analog connections, IoTs will be the goal, IP address on every single thing, that will includes home appliences, wearables, transportations, maybe ... every single plastic container, mirror, hair clipper, bottle water, paper clip, and so on ... well, I am just a little people who watched the trends going and can not do anything about it

I tried using a dongle to connect my essential to the 3.5 mm jack in the car. It sounds terrible. I'm waiting for their headphone jack to see if that works better. Until then when I drive I use my Mi mix to get a clear audio signal. I also tried using a bluetooth receiver and that does not sound good either. So I would rather have a phone with a 3.5 mm audio jack. Most of you won't have that issue but I'm skeptical about how well regular headphones will sound with a dongle. I use bluetooth headphones and the only pair of wired headphones I used were from essential. I purchased two. Sold one and I couldn't tell you where the other one is. They didn't sound great either.

          Don't do that Samsung.

Anonymous, 11 Oct 2018Translation. They made a factual point and you were angered I made a factual point. It doesn't matter whether you people care about the headphone jack or not. The fact of the matter is that it is being removed from every brand over time. Within the next two years, Samsung and LG would've gotten rid of it as well.

So instead of moaning about it, you should understand that it is a reality of life, and move on. I'm the one being factual here and you guys can't let go of your emotions regarding your beloved headphone jack.

That's all i have to say on this.

Everyone's going wireless with their headphones, we should do something about this!

You mean like provide Bluetooth connectivity in phones, like we've been doing already for years?

NO! It means we should be REMOVING options! That makes way more sense!

Anonymous, 11 Oct 2018If companies are deciding to remove the headphone jack for ... moreBetter don't because most people love to choose the type of wireless headphones themselves and perhaps they already have wireless headphones. Including the wireless headphones in the box would increase the selling price and possible a pollution if they throw away because the quality cannot compete with some other premium brand.

Yep, exactly. Their evil is so huge and obvious i am disgusted to be their customer and i'd always try to spend as little as possible. Smartphone manufacturers, car manufacturers, movie makers and service providers (Netflix, Amazon, Google, you name it). I'd avoid paying anything and when i can't (With smartphones), i'd just buy a mid-ranger and use it till it breaks.

wireless only would be a bad idea, when we can have both and chose whatever we want to instead. keep in mind that there are some situations, like in airplanes or remote places where you cannot charge 2 devices or cannot use wireless at all. wired offered less battery consumption as well, not to mention good wireless headsets are still very expensive.

again, if manufacturers think they can push for >£/$1000 phones and then have the audacity to ask for extra £/$400 in accessories and then think that you pay for that every year, think again! very few will be crazy enough to do, and it's not about the money, but the principle.

Anonymous, 11 Oct 2018You think before you write. He's saying the Type-C port is ... moreExactly. Even bigger and fresh batteries can't last a whole day of really heavy usage. With a few excptionss, maybe, but these exceptions actually DO have a 3.5mm jack. And indeed, batteries degrade too fast anyway. Good luck using GPS and listening to music in your car without charging, for example.

As for the danger of USB port breaking, it's not just plugging cycles, but the way headphone cables/connectors are used (Offen put under extreme stress when your cable gets stuck somewhere and you move). So USB audio is definitely a bad idea and wireless audio is definitely a huge compromise, both in terms of quality and convenience (Having to charge another device). Oh, and price too...
