if i was huawei i would go and tell you can use micro sd in second sim slot like other phones but if you buy NM you can use two simcards plus NM cards at same time in mate 20 series. this way those who needed dual sim phone and memory at the same time would definitely buy NM cards and those who didnt will go for mate 20 series. with this strategy they could have good sell for both smartphone and memory card

It is not dealbreaker - in my opinion. Expanding storage often also means less speed. And honestly there are hundreds of people living without SD cards.
But it would be better if they ditched the slot alltogether.

As a power user I can say that I'd never buy a SMARTphone that doesn't have the SD card slot (old or new).
Maybe regular users can live without it, but for me it's the most important feature of the phone.

The new smartphones are getting bigger and bigger but aparently there is no space for e micro sd :))))
Remember sony sd cards? They were different from the regular sd cards. Their devices all had the sony sd cards.
And what happened in the end? Where is sony now?

sr777, 17 Oct 2018Don't worry Chinese manufacturers will step in to fill the ... moreHmm i cant see why its such a limit market.. and i think huawei will lose loads of costumer.. with this strategy regardless if 128gb is enough or isnt.. its another possible incovenience , that at some point they might need extra storage and at this price you have the right to be picky.. especially when it comes to android.. as there is just one phone with the OS.

O S, 17 Oct 2018Existing phones don't have wiring from sim card bay to memo... moreYep, it needs a hardware redesign, but with huawei's nm card implementation any manufacturer that will adapt it for use won't need much extra space for the reader as it will occupy the same area size as nano sim cards and I think it won't be that much thicker as the mate 20 series looks quite thin and sleek.

D1G1T, 17 Oct 2018For most people 128GB are enough for lifetime. Unless you a... moreI am with you! I have a 64gb phone, with 64gb expansion. I store a lot of photos, around 8k photos maybe but it is still on 20-30gb. I don't stream music, and I stored around 15gb of preferred music. I do sometimes store movies, but after I watched it, I delete it.
I believe phones with 128gb of storage is more than enough for an average consumer.
We just know how this person is using his phone that he needs a lot of available storage.

D1G1T, 17 Oct 2018I addition Huawei offers adapters NM card to Micro SD. So b... moremSD is small enough which is about the same size of micro SIM card so there is no point to introduce yet another costly standard Nano SD card. Also, changing SIM card from SIM to Nano SIM is cost-free anyway.
However, changing from memory card meaning you have to transfer everything from the theoretically faster mSD to the slower Nano SD card. The most important point mentioned in the article is that Nano SD card is no way near the mSD in terms of speed, capacity and more important availability.
It would be easy to design a tray for dual sim or 1 sim+SD card, not to mention some of the phones are capable of 2 sims + SD card. I just cannot understand the Huawei's tactics.
