If they aren't using 16:9 aspect ratios, they could probably make parts of the display a bit transparent. The bottom bit and the top bit, with rounded corners that are already added to the 16:9 aspect, should not need to reach the same quality as the rest of the display, so making them a bit transparent should not be that much of an issue, but that way, they could more quickly get going on the under display sensors.

Sonu4678, 19 Oct 2018Um....No! What is that?
Please explain me.From wikipedia:
"A patent is a form of intellectual property. A patent gives its owner the right to exclude others from making, using, selling, and importing an invention for a limited period of time, usually twenty years. The patent rights are granted in exchange for an enabling public disclosure of the invention."
Next time try searching on Google.

This kind of behavior discourages a brand to make something new. They know that others would just replicate it and sell them for far cheaper.
I think brands are afraid of taking risks nowadays. Every Chinese phone is just a rip off Apple products. I'm personally disliking the current industry and all these Chinese brands are responsible for this.

This is exciting!
if they pull this off by 2020 (or 2021) can they make a transparent phone then like in the movie Reel Steel?
That would be awesome if its even possible...

I salute Samsung's commitment to avoiding ugly screen notches and still delivering a great low-bezel phone.
They are also among the few, who stick to their guns and not follow Apple's trends blindly. This includes in keeping the 3.5 mm headphone jack intact too for all their phones, with only LG being the other major OEM to do that.
All other manufacturers including Moto, Oppo, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Nokia, Google, HTC, Huawei, Sony had blindly copied Apple's model of removing the 3.5 mm jack and other questionable decisions (including removing the microSD card slot and putting in ugly screen notches ). Planned obsolescence is an an absolute disgrace. At least Sony had the honesty to openly admit they were removing the 3.5 mm jack because others were doing.
Kudos to Samsung, for driving real innovation and not blindly doing the same as others.

Didn't know Samsung hasn't used notch on any phone. Respect. Notch was a stupid idea to maximize screen size, but making in-display camera, that's actually a clever solution. Similar to in-screen fingerprint scanner.

Sonu4678, 19 Oct 2018And....how would that benefit Samsung in any way? Sure, it'... moreIt's not plagiarism if the tech wasn't patented, or if the "copied" product uses a modified method of recreating the tech. That's why Apple's notch has been copied numerous times yet their curved bottom display method of overcoming bottom bezel hasn't been copied at all.
Samsung can go around with it however they prefer. Sooner or later though, we'll end up with a flood of under-display camera phones because there's just too much demand for it.
Also, as a consumer, you and i should be caring about consumers rather than manufacturers. Especially giants like Samsung, Huawei & Apple. They're literally the highest-selling smartphones brands currently, in respective order. Let's look after ourselves instead of making these companies even richer.
