Anonymous, 23 Oct 2018why do they cling on old technology like fingerprint reader... moreI'm not sure what crappy fingerprint sensor your phone has but my S8 opens immediately when I put my finger on it.
Tell me, what are you going to do with the extra .2 seconds you save in a day by not using your fingerprint scanner?
How exactly does FaceID work, is the IR sensor always scanning waiting for your face or do you need to touch the phone to wake it up so it can then be unlocked by looking at it?
Is the battery always draining due to this? Is this why Huawei needs 4000maH batteries?
Face it, you just don't like the fact that Samsung came up with this before your shitty chinese company did and now your sad / angry.

Now that's the future. Not some stupid Face ID. A locked smartphone in sleep mode waking up and unlocking instantly when an authorized fingertip/fingerprint, starts interacting with the screen anywhere in the entire screen area (can be a touch, swipe, tap or whatever, so long as some fingerprint is gets in contact with the touchscreen).

Last year u said curved screen was bad because it could "distort" the view, but now you change your mind.
Come on man, samsung is leading everyone. Accept the fact.

Anonymous, 23 Oct 2018why do they cling on old technology like fingerprint reader... moreSo, tell your bank and registration office to switch their fingerprint reader to faceID if you trust it so much. -_- Its old and well developed since 2004 in phone compare to face scan. Why do you think people still use it for official business; not in smartphone of course.

why do they cling on old technology like fingerprint readers when we have FaceID? Fingerprint readers are easily fooled and it's easy to get access to a phone without the owner's consent.
Fingerprint readers are the next 3.5mm jacks. Old tech for people who don't like changes, new things, or upgrades. Same people who a few hundred years ago would have wanted faster horses instead of a motorised vehicle. Same people who would go for a petrol or diesel car today instead of getting a fully electric one.

Marco M, 23 Oct 2018Smart screen scrolling was done by china brands and rebrand... morei'm with you on the curved screens and that is the reason why i held off upgrading my note 4 then. i eventually got a note 8 last year but ended up selling it to get the razer phone 1.
going back to the hd screen, regardless if its pentile matrix samsung used, it still was considered hd and tech sites agree that samsung was the first to slap an hd screen to a smartphone.
the rest maybe gimmick for some, but there are people like me who find it really useful, so it could be valid firsts.

s-pen pusher, 23 Oct 2018uhmm.... variable aperture in smartphone camera. let me als... moreSmart screen scrolling was done by china brands and rebrands across Asia long before Samsung got that annoying feature - which is best left off.
As far as HD screens go, pentile was still an issue for AMOLED in normal use even with the small screens of 2011 and 2012. The small S3 looked awful and pixelated and the larger Note looked horrible as well. Even low resolution devies like the Motorola Droid/Milestone had batter looking displays because at least they weren't pixelated like a nightmare.
Truth be told Samsung's HD SAMOLED displays looked pretty awful and pixelated, major screen door effect. LG came out the month after Note with a significantly better, and actual HD, display.
It wasn't until Samsung's FHD AMOLED came they brought the same clarity in their screens as HD IPS ones with no visible pixelation nor screen door effect for normal use. Problem is this resolution is still being used today in many much larger phones and hence pentile has become an issue again, even for normal use in some devices.
HTC came first with FHD.
Vivo came first with QHD.
Sony came first with 4k.
There is always going to be someone first, but as an industry leader Samsung sure does a lot of following others and some of their own stuff are bothersome gimmicks. Like their edge displays which offer no benefit, but less grip, are more prone to breaking and it's not an ideal display to watch fullscreen content. Such a pain, but a least they don't do notches.
S-pen, sure for a certain type of users.
I sure hope samsung will license this full display FP reader patent at managable prices, and not take an apple like with their OLED folding. Apple loves the selfish way most of all.

The first to do it like Sharp, HTC is not even doing well at all. First is not always best. Thick bezel? Not on the flagship. Bruhh. Unless you talking budget phone, all budget phone have thick bezel.

It seems that Samsung wants again to secure a technology for themselves with no real intention to release it in the near future.
