Google finds Night Mode really helps battery endurance

08 November 2018
Google’s Material Design guidelines currently use a lot of white so that could change in the future.

Show just how stupid Google is if it took them so long to realise that a dark background is far more battery efficient than a white background on OLED screens. I'm sick of their constant needless tinkering with Android UI and UX for minimal gains without properly thinking it through.

Welcome to 2018/2019, where dark mode on screens is actually considered useful. Well not only on your stupid battery life, but your eyesight for the rest of your life 🤔😂😂😂

Why is it so hard to effing do a dark/black theme for Android??
Doesn't Google have coders or what?
On my phone I've hidden the status bar, the nav keys and the wallpaper is set to black.
Now you can't tell if my phone is on or off and the battery consumption is better. It also prevents burn-ins of the display.
Advice : turn off that stupid always on feature.

One thing that is holding me back on a Pixel 3xl, is that everything is white! Needs all screens that don't require scrolling, to be black. Like the dialer.

This proves Google is too blindly copying that they lose touch with reality.

Now you want change? GOOD LUCK. Changing is extremely hard for you guys.. TAKE YEARS.. and tons of phones will not get it anyways.

What really helps battery endurance? "Installing a larger battery in your phones" is the best answer. Then optimize the phone and voila!

This should be on the next Android update natively

Anonymous, 09 Nov 2018Yeah maybe if they weren't so busy trying to copy iOS with ... moreStop crying, no one is copying IOS. Android has own character and had it since first day. I'm nor Android Fan neither Apple Fan (cause i have still brain in my head and i use it), but you i$heeps are really funny. You see Android is getting better and better and it is already much better than ios in most of aspects and it is so hard for you to accept.

And why Google doesn't include Night Mode in their OS core?

Even Samsung forgot about the dark mode after Galaxy S2, despite being an AMOLED pioneer. Pity.

Then AMOLED display should be widely used by each and every phone manufacturer to get the best out of their phone.
Since Amoled display are costly and not being used by everyone, they should try to reduce the cost of these Amoled panels.

Lol there have been test demonstrating this before and advanced users have been using a combination of dark themes and pure red filters in CFLumen for years now.

Welp, in OLED, dark grey is simply dimmed white in relative to brighter surrounding pixel so yeah, it use less power obviously
So with this they should at least give dark mode for mobile chrome

Let's wait until Android Q or R for Google to introduce a true, system-wide and interactive Dark Mode. At least S Internet allows users to use Night Mode on every website (including GSMArena) which works well, is easier on the eyes and obviously saves battery. Combined with AdBlock, that's the Internet in 10x better.

Can't wait for OneUI beta. System-wide night mode that also works in apps!!!
