High end chpset. Immense battery, best cameras in the biz, dual sim. They really have no downside apart from the whole spying from the Chinese gov. But that is true for western brands too (instead NSA spies you), so it all balances out.

Countless Battery Test all over YouTube of the Mate 20 Pro absolutely obliterating the Galaxy Note9 and S9+. Guess the Samsungs don't have good battery life either then, yeah?

Samsung is curring corners, especially in battery capacity and camera quality. So it is probably wrong that you wait for S10. I expect Mate 20 to be better as Mate 10 was better than S9 in almost all the aspects.
Samsung has serious internal pribelms and it shows to their phones (not top of the world anymore, only fanboys buy them. S4 - 80 mil sales, S9 - would barely break 30 mil)

Anonymous, 14 Nov 2018Those custom cores are just fancy a76Actually, did you know Samsung invented the Cortex A76?
Their custom Mongoose cores are very close in design, and was released months before ARM published their design. However, its okay because Samsung and SoftBank/ARM are in a close relationship agreement. It's why Samsung has been sticking with the Mali-Graphics solutions for years.
ARM's and Samsung's biggest rival is now Apple's Semiconductors and AMD's Ryzen.
I hope competition continues going strong, we'd hate to see stagnation.

m20user, 14 Nov 2018Have you seen the Mate 20 Performance benchmarks? Have a lo... more Inside the latest version of software on the P20, P20 Pro, and Honor Play, Huawei was discovered gaming its scores by optimizing the system for certain benchmarking apps, most notably the popular 3DMark and GFXBench suites. According to AnandTech, “the newer devices come with a benchmark detection mechanism that enables a much higher power limit for the SoC with far more generous thermal headroom.”
That means the phones will not only score significantly higher than Huawei handsets without the boost, but also wildly inflate real-world performance. Basically, Huawei was benchmarking its chips’ theoretical results without taking things like battery life and overheating into account. It didn't behave like the phone would in real-world scenarios.

m20user, 14 Nov 2018According to AnandTech the Exyno9810 had a lot of compromis... moreWhen it doesn't throttle, it's a clear beast.
Samsung's poor heat management holds the raw power back, but I would say that they did a better job than Huawei.
Take a look at the Kirin 980 being benchmarked, in this case, by GSMArena on a Mate 20 Pro.
The fact that they've had to go as far as putting the phone in the freezer to cool the phone down only shows how inefficient the Kirin 980 is at sustained performance.
Exynos 9810 also throttles hard, but you at least get superb performance in return, and one that's truly a great rival to Apple's long-time reigning supreme lead in the mobile chipsets. Even if it heats up, it doesn't get as much as the Kirin 980, and they even had the better solution of a graphite cooling system with the Note 9.
Cortex A76 is just as power hungry as Mongoose M3 cores while being less powerful and smaller.
We aren't even forgetting the fact that the Kirin 980 is made on the newer and more efficient 7nm process vs 10nm on the Exynos 9810.
If it sounds as if I'm praising Samsung and hating Huawei with my statements, then sorry to disappoint you but I don't have such intentions. I'm just giving credits where they are due. Huawei is better in the mid range and low end segment, but Samsung is still ahead in the high end. The gap is definitely getting smaller and smaller each year, and the Mate 20 Pro is about the biggest rival of the Note 9.

zamroni1, 14 Nov 2018why it is not A76, SamsungThe Cortex A75 here is classified as the mid-level performance cores. It's aim is to avoid the heating concerns the Cortex A76 brought, as proven on the Mate 20's benchmark tests by GSMArena.
The custom core (probably Mongoose M4) is the main powerhouse, which would be better than the A76.
Single core of Cortex A76 is around 3500 (same ballpark as the Apple A10 Fusion), and if rumors are true, this Mongoose M4 cores would be around 4400 (slightly ahead of A11 Bionic, and 400 points lower than the A12 Bionic).
