The decision to improve their mid range lineup is an indication of something big that's about to happen.
In the case of chipsets, if the Kirin 980 is faltering behind the Exynos 9810 in CPU power, this Exynos 9820 will surely blow it away again until second half of 2019.
Huawei can't fix their long-time problem of being always easily outperformed in the chipset game, as if they don't even feel like trying to overtake Samsung.

Mali g72 mp 18 = 375 gflops
Mp1 = 20.8
Mali g76 mp 12 = 40% more
So 525 flops for mp12
Mp1 = 43.8
If they did mp18 it would be 780 gflops a bit more than adreno630 or a12 gpu

SD845 can record 4K30 HDR 10. Exynos cannot.
And HDR is better than SDR...
Also SD845 + 3-layer CMOS = 4K30 HDR Hybrid Log Gamma ( what Sony phones do) ... Another advantage the SD version could have.

As soon as i posted my comment, it came to my mind that the SD8150 is not capable of these features, so unless if Samsung ditches Snapdragon altogether, they will not be able to offer these features on their 2019 model at all.
It's really unfortunate... Who knows if SD8250 will be capable either. Snapdragon is always behind the competition. :/

Also Samsung uses Exynos and Snapdragon. One Cpu can do things the other can't, so in the end both variants are capped.

Do you guys realize that the camera sensor is also a factor of limitation when it comes to video recording?
It is not only up to CPU or sensor alone. It is a combination of both. Imx400 inside XZ Premium can record 4K60 but cpu could not.
Samsung will stick with 12MP 1/2.55" next year. It's easier to hide noise e watercolour effect when you use low resolution.
Photos of 12 MP will look better than 20, 30 or 40 MP at 100% if all were processed by same algorithm. That's why most use 12.
Last year before S9, Samsung presented new sensors of higher resolution but did not use them. The new ones (48 and 32) are for A series.

And the A12X is a tablet SOC and most likely runs at a higher TDP and it's able to more easily keep high boost clocks for longer(taking in consideration the massive battery and more thermal room). It's not fare to compare it with an SOC specifically designed for phones.
