18 November 2018
Both motorized pop-ups and manual sliders offer a way to circumvent the notch. But which design is better?

Bar phone without a notch or a small popup. I can live with a small notch too. But anything else makes zero sense. Sliders take up unnecessary space at the expense of battery. Big notches don't leave enough space for notifications and are a huge compromise. "Holes" (Huawei&Samsung's idea) are the worst as it acts as dead pixels and you'll never have the full content on your screen.

    how about manual small pop-up

Just remove the selfie cam at all. I can adjust with a no front camera for a full screen experience.
Or keep them under the display and switch off those individual pixels(LED Display) when taking selfies.
If all else fails, Nubia X.

I rather tap the Sharp phones. I dont like dust on my phone.

dual screen. dual screen. dual screen!

who care which better ... we only compare it with fruit ....

Both are gimmicks that make the phone unlikely to have water protection which is a basic feature.

IMO popup is better, I always have issue with flexes of sliders, most of the people I know as well has the same thing with sliders, popup looks cooler as well but longevity might be on sliders' side

I would vote for bar phones are better but reading the article that seems to imply I'd rather have a notch, which I don't. Call me old(-fashioned) but I'd take a bar phone with a plastic or metal back with a 16:9 screen ratio and a regular camera any day. The Xperia XA2 is the best phone released this year, so far.

Nicolas F, 18 Nov 2018It's not "isn't the best", it's the worst) And curved disp... moreNah, I'd rate it as bad as the Galaxy S8(+) and Note 8, which isn't the worst out there. I think it's the ASUS ROG that has an even worse placement (as in too high AND not on the central axis).

It is still a bad design choice to place it so low on the backburner though.

I do think the slim frame and and curved display are an aesthetic refinement. (Whether it adds to the functionality or not is not what I meant.)

They're both useless and impractical. Why use those parts that can break when a slim bezel could hold all the necessary sensors?

IMO with the manula slider, there would be less of a risk of mechanical failure and/or deterioration over time. Also, it seems more fun to use.

A manual slider Android One device would probably be the best. I would buy one if it were available

And curved display can not be named a 'refinment' at all)

I heard rumors that Pixel 4 XL may be done right)

Nicolas F, 18 Nov 2018However, XZ2/3 are still bad designed phones =PCamera/fingerprint sensor placement isn't the best, but the XZ3 looks and feels really nice in the hand for the rest. A lot more refined than the XZ2, with the curved display and thin frame. Only complaint I could think of is the power button being too small. (And maybe the thickness, but that's a non-issue really.)

I definitely considered this as a replacement for my Nexus 6P, especially since it came with a free pair of headphones (WH-1000XM3) and I kinda regret not getting it now because I really wanted those headphones.
But I decided to wait for the rumoured Nokia 9 Pureview. And if I don't like that one, the next big thing will be right around the corner.

All of these phone are SOOO cool, I couldn't vote!

i prefer non notched bezels over either sliders or pop ups , call me outdated or call me whatever you want ...

There is nothing wrong with bezels. Stop it with the expensive breakable pop ups and sliders. The fewer moving parts the better.
