Snapdragon 8150 AI benchmark crushes the competition, Helio P80 a close second

20 November 2018
The benchmark results raise a few eyebrows, though. For example, OnePlus 6 outscores the Huawei Mate 20 Pro.

I strongly believe that GPU is the most essential part of a smartphone SoC, because that's how things are done smoothly on our devices.
For CPU, it doesn't really matter that much anymore. Even a Snapdragon 820 CPU is enough for today's current demands for performance, but the Adreno 630 level of graphics is necessary to run the heaviest of apps currently.
That being said, I'd love to see a SoC from Qualcomm, which would use a flagship Adreno GPU (530 or 540 at least) on a CPU as powerful as the Snapdragon 630 or 636.

Nice to see Mediatek doing well even if it's just a synthetic benchmark of questionable value. I've always found their Helio chipsets to be of capable performance and superb value for money.

Also nice to see Huawei being shown up to be liars and cheats once again. I've deliberately avoided Kirin devices and will continue to do so.

      "...these scores are somewhat questionable..."
About time gadget bloggers wakes up and sees how pointless mobile "benchmarks" are. They're mostly a competition in who can pull the biggest number out of their a.....

Hm.... I do hope Mediatek will revive the X series... but these are some really amazing news.

Anonymous, 20 Nov 2018Kirin 980 has the best AI power and is actually available to buyAnd in 4 months it be the Samsung galaxy phones and then 6 or 7 months later it be the Kirin ones.

But the Snapdragon and Exynos stay at the top for a longer period of time than Kirin.

4 or 5 months later its outdated ;)

Anonymous, 20 Nov 2018Huawei has the best android chipset of 2018Thats only because they release their CPU at the end of the year when everyone else is working on the next cpus which will arrive in 1st quarter.

All it has to do with is timing not Huawei manufacturing skills but good try.

i still find that sd845 is better than kirin980.
in now days, graphic is almost everything.
kirin became "good" over the night... something is not right...

Does anyone know what is the "image processing magic" that slows down the pixel?

Kirin 980 is the best Android SOC you can buy right now. Not like funboys speaking of futuristic things that are not available at all. And saying I will wait for S10, Note 10 etc. Ok wait also for One plus 7, LG G8, V40, Sony Experia XZ4..... Ha ha ha.

Huawei's Kirin 980's Npu, adapts itself according to user's app usage, give performance boosts to the apps you use regularly and let them store more cache(backedup memory to load stuffs faster). Other -meh things like, AI brightness- will adjust to your selection in different lighting conditions, AI Auto-rotate- phone apps would rotate by your face alignment, and much more. Maybe, these use cases are still quite low, but everytime better hardware are been made possible, to gather developers attention to develop more and more AI driven apps.

                                    Meeehhh, useless tests as usual...
