Anonymous, 22 Nov 2018Based on my lousy experience with their U11 this miserable ... moreIt had nothing to do with losing their "best engineers" or what not - look at the mess that is the Pixel 3, the direct work of those former HTC engineers. HTC's phones this year are pretty much consistent with what they made before they lost the Pixel team, and the problems are carried over from back then too - out of touch pricing and incredibly inflexible strategy from the management. With different leadership, it could have gone completely differently with the same product lineup.

HTC is way beyond it's days of glory. HTC is actually no better than Oppo or Altacal. 3rd tier smartphone maker. But they love to charge 1st tier prices.

Whackcar, 22 Nov 2018HTC's situation is really unfortunate. The quality of their... moreHTC is in such a precarious situation firstly because of several missteps of their own doing and Chinese brands. Replace HTC with LG and the sentence would still be accurate.
Remember the HTC U Ultra? Remember the UltraPixel at its inception? Remember the conservative design changes? Remember the unrelatable pricing?
HTC had the best software experience on Android, one of the best builds, was a decent all rounder, then they got cocky and tried to be Android's Apple. It backfired terribly and they're still paying for misreading the market. If only they'd kept their One M8 / M9 momentum going. Industry-leading design, excellent software, necessary features on lock down, and wallet-friendly pricing. They let it slip and they share the vast majority of the blame.

Based on my lousy experience with their U11 this miserable company should pack it up, enough is enough.
They bled their best engineers to Robin/Razer, Asus and Google and became irrelevant.

The only way to survive is to create Axon 7 type of flagship killer phones, both price and quality wise. Something brands should do anyway.

If they want to stand out, maybe they should try making small phones, around four-point-zero inches. Top quality and metal frames and all that. If the phone is smaller, it can be a bit bulkier to accommodate a bigger battery, it doesn't matter at that size. Everybody nowadays makes huge shovel sized phones, and none of them is any special, they all look the same.

Change the back design , forgot the logo or create a new one , upgrade the screen to 4K lcd or 2k Oled , bring back the headphone jack , don’t have a notch , use a flat display over curved , make 2 sizes 5.5 and 5.8 , use the latest processor , use 8gb of ram min , make the display as edge to edge as possible. Go stock android
And take the google pixel customers as a first come back then work.
Focus on a design which is suited in favour of certain things , not a phone that is avg at all. Like decent sunlight viewing amazing Bluetooth sound e.g a Bluetooth dac built in a camera on the same like as the pixel.

HTC's situation is really unfortunate. The quality of their phones hasn't really dropped. The design language has changed, but the quality of their hardware & the cleanliness of their software is still as good as of old. Their flagship phones are still fully competitive in design/camera/music/features. The reason their phones don't sell much these days is because their brand has lost it's value over the years. It is no longer considered in the same group as Samsung, even though they were direct competitors once (HTC phones were actually considered more premium at that time, due to their solid metallic hardware in comparison to Samsung's cheap plastic bodies of that era).
I do hope they're able to come out of the downward spiral and find some solid footing to move forward with. They deserve to exist & progress!

That is great news. HTC are tru innovators and our business has been running the A9 as daily drivers. Now a mix with Pixel .. little beauty it is. The HTC, life series .. . well like to see then steer away from the super gloss lollipop colors design. Back to solid classy basics with character !!

HTC makes some superb phones; but it need to work on the following:
1. Design. It's desin language is boring. It needs WAY better designs for phones. Including camera module cutaway and colour schemes.
2. Better marketing. Apple is mostly about marketing.
3. Atleast 2 Distinct Lineups in its Flagships.
It probably also need a a new design and innovation team. It makes good phones, with some great features. But it needs to make them superb. In every way. Right now they have a light Boring element about them. Like a Rolls Royce or something. They should aim for the Bugatti Cheron or Veyron kind of ooommmppphhh factor.
