They can add 222 cameras that it'll be useless with their amazing software processing.... To convice some in pay their overpriced phone, perhaps they do the same that other chinese brands like them, releasing another limited edition with some screen-printed Chinese dragon or fake premium materials.

Look at the Pixels for example. Not a fan of the series but it's great sensor combined with great software produces great images and videos.

While the phone its self will not be bad, HMD has had a weak spot so far with the camera software. Now with these cameras, even the hardware is a bit of an unknown. But if this phone keeps SD845, which it will sadly, then if they price it like the Sirocco, sales won't be good at all.

HMD should have released a true successor to the Nokia 8 a long time ago. It was cheaper than other flagships, had a good performance and was overall a very solid phone.

It does have 5 cameras and I'd give that QHD+ display a praise, but that's it. Nothing really makes it special, and unless the camera is anything special (as in giving a heavy competition to mirrorless cameras in overall image quality and destroying every other smartphone cameras), it wouldn't do any favor for them.

And don't you get it? This one, in theory, is Nokia's greatest and best flagship offering for the whole 2019, and so it only sounds right to have the best possible SoC during its time of release.
Let's say they might have an upper tier version one to be released later on with the proper SD855, but at that point, the chipset would already be outdated and some more powerful chips would debut already.
What's the sense of it being a flagship then?
Not to mention, they priced the Nokia 8 Sirocco at the same level as several phones that are significantly more powerful and compelling devices this year, and I have no doubts if they do the same thing again next year.

If I were them, I'd honestly wait a few more months just to get the proper 2019 flagship SD855 chipset (and gain some more attention too, since I'd release the phone just after the hype for the biggest phone brands get over) instead of rushing to release the phone with an inferior SoC.
LG did this already and failed, and then learned their lesson since then. Even Nokia themselves did this already and it wasn't any sort of success to them.
Are they really intending to do the same mistake again and again?

Shanti Dope, 28 Dec 2018Uhh, okay? But this phone is supposed to compete with the ... moreThey don't need to price at Pocophone levels just because that phone exists. If it costs around the same as a OnePlus 6/6T that is definitely a good price for it, especially if it comes with a better camera. And honestly, the difference in performance between the chipsets is moot because nothing will make use of that extra power. I'd rather have a cheap(ish) 845 phone than S9/S10 prices just for the 855

Just don't put a small sensor that many other manufacturers use, Nokia. It should at least have an 1/1.7 inch sensor for the main camera. And hopefully improved image processing as well, I mean, Nokia 8 had such a terrible pair of cameras because of crap software post-processing.

Who cares about having a bunch of cameras? Sure I get it. They can do many interesting things and effects. And combine to some degree for improving the image.... But only on what those sensors can do.
What we want is a really high end main sensor for that money. Something like the 808 which wipes the floor with offers in image quality even to this day.

Boeing 747-400, 28 Dec 2018So that means that Nokia is really called so-called FOXCONN... moreTo be fair FIH Mobile, a subsidiary company of Foxconn, comprises a large part of HMD Mobile that owns the current Nokia brand. The company is not entirely owned by Foxconn though.

C'mon HMD! You have a month to spare so procure some SD855 SoC and motherboards already and put it in place. If only HMD Nokia does the same thing as Asus when they get specially binned SD845 to stably overclock to 2.96 Ghz.

For all those who are complaining about SD 845, First realise that it's going to come with stock android probably. So SD 845 + stock android = SD 1000

Anonymous, 28 Dec 2018People seems to forget how small company HMD is. Samunsung,... moreIt's a fair point, but it still doesn't justify the idea of this phone being a super high end offering for the first quarter of 2019.
By the time that Nokia comes up with a SD855-powered version of their phone, there will be another more powerful chipset in the corner already (Apple A13 and Kirin 990), putting that SD855-powered Nokia phone in an outdated state already.
Yes, HMD is a small company, but they should consider re-releasing this phone again.
There's no point of calling this the Nokia 9 but with an outdated SoC, because in theory, this should be Nokia's greatest and best offering for the whole 2019.
I'd rather wait a few more months to get that more powerful SD855 than to rush everything and regret it in the end.
LG did this with the G6, and we know how it turned out. It was hyped only during the day it was announced, just before being overshadowed severely by the Galaxy S8/S8+ a month later.

Samunsung, Huaway, Xiaomi and so on who Are bigger companies gets the new chipsets like 855 much earlier than tiny companies like HMD.
But 845 still have good punch! If the camera setup is good and not just a gimmic. If HMD keep on giving superb os upgrade support (as They already have done previously) and the build guality remains good. I can see that Nokia 9 will get Many friends! And 855 version will come out Sooner or later. Maybe end on 2019 or 2020. That is not the Main point. If the phone is good, it is good. And if it is a good, it will become popular because good quality means people like it and people will like to have good quality products.
I my self at least use a good time of finding out what is good quality and what is not, because I will use that product Many, Many years. It is cheaper to by a good device than cheap and not so good. of course there is a balance somewhere when something is good enough!

if you guys want to pay premium for last year chip, go for it. I'm not that much of a sucker myself unfortunately (for these greedy manufacturers) *shrug*

How wasteful are these OEMs! There's barely any difference between SD710 and SD855, so why don't Samsung just use SD710 instead of SD845 or E9810 for the Galaxy Note 9 to save cost instead?
SD855 is so OP, yet SD710 is just as good. The Galaxy S10 Plus should just use the SD710 instead!
