This was bound to happen with Apple one or other day. They became too greedy over last couple of years assuming people will buy anything offered by them. This is indication not just for Apple but also for all other Android OEMs who are selling phones for $1000. As mentioned earlier, this is just basic $ price above which all other countries have their own import, custom & tariff duties which ultimately increase the price of the phone to end user sometimes upto double. Average people cannot afford to buy & change $2000 phone every year. Instead of increasing no of selfi & back cameras, they should really increase the battery capacity from 3000-4000 mah to 12000-15000 mah so as to last at least for whole day.

Apple has got guts.
"some customers taking advantage of significantly reduced pricing for iPhone battery replacements"
So they have calculated their guidance by throttling phones which in turn will make people to upgrade. Excellent company. Excellent ethics and excellent people buying such excellent phone.

Iphone anticipation of lower revenue is actually not much lower. It would be deep around $75 Billion to better predict the impact of upcoming smartphones with new features and technologies. For example, Punch Hole & DSLR like Camera and none other than foldable mobiles. Iphone could not provide this in Q1 as they as only ready in Q2 i.e. Sep'19.

XS max top spec costs $2k here..
New strategy is not what they need, simply lower the iphone price.
No need to hire expert, as simple as lowering the price.

"Apple even cited the “significantly reduced pricing for iPhone battery replacements” as a factor."
This one is totally their own mistake! they new the risk and they took it but the risk didn't pay off!
Also most of their revenue comes from ripping off people for device repairs that are as little as changing a cable(almost $200) but they demand you need to replace whole motherboard and stands($1200) for problem to be fixed! How idiotic is this?(that is why people mostly take apple devices to 3rd party repair centers!)

With lower iphone sales, and smaller market share, in 2-3 years their Services will also see strong decline.
So, if Apple making so much money on Services, maybe they should think about making their devices avaible to more people, not to less....

Blame yourself, Apple, for having such ridiculously high price tags for your phones. Don't blame China. It's your greed which is killing you.

I expect Samsung to cope better than Apple in the onslaught of the aggressive price:performance flagship offerings of the formidable Chinese trio: Huawei, Xiaomi and Oppo-Vivo. Samsung realized it can no longer compete on image and brand name alone with these aggressive Chinese brands. That is why, it is upping its feature set: Holding on to the headphone jack, holding on to micro sd cards, upping the battery capacity to 4000mAh, adding ultrawide to its multiple camera set up, and yes, even enabling FM radio in some of its international release flagship phones!
Who knows, Samsung might even bring back the IR blaster which many Xiaomi phones have, and which Huawei flagships started adding to the vanilla Mate series from Mate 9, 10 to 20. (Older Mate 7 and Mate 8 didn't have IR blasters).
In an ocean full of flagship phones with too similar key features (flagship snapdragon processor, RAM, RAM and more RAM, OLED displays, multiple cameras and huge internal storage phones without micro sd slots), its actually those 'analog, legacy, old-fashioned' features above that can sway a buyer to choose one phone over another AND the phone manufacturer's commitment to fast, timely software updates that don't intentionally slow down the phone.
It's no longer about the screen resolution, RAM, or processor speed or camera quality. The new battle field is the PRICE:PERFORMANCE, the software update support and the unique smartphone feature set and flexibility - even if millennials and the younger generation think they don't matter at all (they do matter to the older, the more financially capable population who grew up with those 80' and 90's technology).
So there Apple, if you want the iPhone to remain relevant, if you want it to maintain its premium image and price, iPhones have to offer more than just DUAL SIMS, Face ID and the fastest bionic processor! Learn from Samsung and the Android operating system: up the battery capacity, add external storage, overhaul iOS to make it more customizable, less restrictive and less suffocating, and most of all, price the iPhone reasonably. Pricing the base 64GB iPhone XS Max model higher than a 65" 4K UHD Smart Samsung TV is certainly not reasonable for any smartphone which has an average 2 year lifespan and that includes the iPhone!

Apple loses $50 Billion in market value...Lol
They'll lose more in the months to come especially with phones that will be released by competitors that'll have 5G and SD 855 or Exynos 9820....Lol
