Walter C. Dornez, 03 Jan 2019Can somebody explain to me the advantages of high single an... moreMultiple cores in ARM design are there for power efficiency purposes and not performance boost unlike PC x86 CPUs. Android spreads out the load across multiple cores even when apps are developed as single threaded and 99.9% apps are made for single core use only. Very, very likely you will never encounter full load on all the cores no matter how many apps are open at the same time cause there is no app that can extract all that power from CPU. It's simple as that.

Benchmark tests are there to sell you new phones. To be fair new CPUs always bring something good and useful when it comes to features like HDR video recording or quickcharge but when it comes to real life every day performance your eye will not notice the difference unless software upgrade screws up your phone intentionally.

Single core. also known as "Single thread" score.means how well ONE core of the platform performs the series of tasks thrown at the CPU when the benchmark runs. the baseline is a SINGLE core score of the intel I7 6600U. at 4,000 points. the performance is relative. if a core scores 3000 points. it has 75% of the power of the i7-6600U according to geekbench. with 8,000 points= double the power.
the Multi-core (or MultiTHREAD. means the same in the tech world) is the assessment of how well ALL the CPUs fair when the benchmark runs. a dual core score is always 140% of the single core, a QUAD core will always score x2.2 the score. and an Octa core will allways score about 4 times the single core.
as for why it's not EXACTLY TWICE, QUADRICE and Octice the scores. (a dual core SHOULD'VE scored twice the score of a single core. a QUAD core should score 4 times, and an Octa core should score EIGHT times) it's because of loads. think about it like cooperation. when you and your friend manuver a car for example. you will NOT exert all your power to succeed in pushing it to the garage. same with 4, and 8 friends. it's never 100% load.

This is shaping up really well! I was going to get a Samsung s10+, but I think I am going to get this instead! Sony is back

Single matters more on iPhones because they don't make use of proper multitasking. While Android has proper multitasking, so it makes use of multiple cores at the same time. And that is where extra multi core performance shines.

It's all about bragging rights cos it makes a ma... moreSomeone need to do detail test like during video rendering and image processing if those multi cores affect cos now while single core is what is most felt but users, sometimes exporting a video takes really long so if multi cores matter in this case, then it is freaking important.

Could be a really nice phone. Sony definitely seems to be improving in the smartphone department, lately

Nice to see sony back on track, using the latest SoC come early new year Just like xperia Z (the best android support ever 4.1 to 5.1).
Hopefully XZ4 androud P to T, cross my fingers

8gb ram? Finally sony.....your fans been protecting u for using 4gb ram for a long time already....and pair with that multi-core performance SD855? Great job Sony. Many new things seems to be on Sony, maybe a lot of surprises too.

Impress me, Sony, maybe i'll come back to you.

Single core performance is the one that is most felt by the users.

The XZ4 is seriously impressive, hope Sony gets some success from this, they really need to make more budget phones like they did in 2012-2014.

For almost all tasks, even three A53 running 1,5GHz are enough.

WOW. Just wow. The SD855 is gonna be a hell of a beast!

This benchmark always uses for single core the one with lowest clock.
Apple uses all cores with same clock. Their cpu will always be #1 at singlecore.

Walter C. Dornez, 03 Jan 2019Can somebody explain to me the advantages of high single an... moresome apps are designed to run on single core of a CPU( mainly lite apps, casual games etc.,)
while other heavy weight apps like (video editing apps and vulkan API games) make use of extra cores in a processor to make use of extra load

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvCD9FaTKCA ( take a look at how vulkan utilizes extra CPU cores in a Quad core arrangement) while same app in Open GL is not using those extra cores

Can somebody explain to me the advantages of high single and multi core performance?
