I bet everyone would find this screen so cool and so awesome, if it wasn't from Sony. But since it's from Sony, we will bash it, like always.
Now, lets praise every stupid thing Apple, Vivo, Samsung and Xiaomi comes up. They are so cool and awesome. LOL

Thanks for your dirty attitude.

jamesschwarz987, 06 Jan 2019I'm just asking, especially with the last paragraph.
Th... moreThat part of my statement only tries to prove that the ratios that our current phones have aren't industry standards, making them seem pointless.
And before I continue, I'd take this opportunity for being hard on my reply. I just thought you're going to debunk what's already proven.
But yeah, it would be ridiculous if there were any contents that were optimized in those ways, which is why I'd say 21:9, an industry standard ratio, is still better than 18:9 to 19.5:9 ratios when it comes to functionality.

Zion, 06 Jan 2019I really dont understand what was the problem with 16:9 dis... moreNot that it was a problem, but the newer standards are simply better and gives us much better practicality on smartphones.
You see, 18:9 ratio screens allowed phones to have large screens without increasing the overall footprint of the devices.
And you may ask why they don't make 16:9 phones with small bezels, it's probably because of the fact that this ratio is too short to be used on small form factors.
With the introduction of native split screen multitasking on Android, 16:9 sounds a little too small to perform the task, and that 18:9 can somehow make this feature even better, and it really worked much better.
18:9 also brings in more vertical contents, so you no longer have to scroll down repeatedly to read something like an article or anything like that.
As for gamers, this allows the players to have a wider perspective of the game (in landscape) which also enhances the overall gaming experience. If you're playing something like PUBG Mobile on your 18:9 phone, you are definitely at an advantage against those who are using 16:9 screen phones because you see more of your surroundings even for a little bit.
There are still more valuable benefits that newer ratios bring in to the table, but these are some of the most beneficial that I've found.

Ridiculous or not, 21:9 screen ratio on phones will be wide spread.
Remember that Sony the 1st to introduce the 16:9 screen ratio on phone in 2010, Xperia X10. It takes about two years for Apple & Samsung to follow suits, start with Iphone 5 & Galaxy S3, in 2012.
21:9 screen ratio are fine by me, u can see more enemy on PUBG gaming lol! Cinematic videos are a plus. But the body phone height should not exceeds 160cm, otherwise it will be too tall to fit in your pocket! (My current 158cm height Mate 20 are maximum size that can fit in my pocket!). Sony should just stick to 6.1" screen size on 21:9 ratio, so the height can be controlled.

Anonymous, 05 Jan 2019So you can stay at home. Pause it whenever you want .
... moreWhy bring Samsung and Apple into this?
You can watch cast the movies onto the TV for a more immersive experience and also pause it any time you like. Didn't you know that?

There's no other than smartphone screens that uses that kind of ratio.
TVs, monitors, and projectors are usually has 4:3, 11:8, 16:9, 16:10, or 21:9 screen ratio. Hence, there's no way content creators would go to any weird ratio like 2:1 or 19.5:9, except if they're vloggers who loves to records vertical video that matches with their phone's screen ratio, to make it looks good on their Instagram stories.

James, 06 Jan 2019I disagree.
The 16:9 screen is far better balanced.
I onl... moreTrust me, it only takes time and practice.
I never found 18:9 a PIA, because all the usability issues that I've encountered with this ratio was also present in my previous 16:9 ratio phone.
You may be different, but trust me when I tell you that 18:9 drastically improves productivity. You'll appreciate this especially when multitasking (this is what most people do nowadays)
