Someone else said it here: feature-packed phones at cheaper prices. The Xiaomi PocoPhone F1 proved that companies will gain major traction when doing so.

On top of that, bigger battery. I don't give a rat's you-know-what for paper thin, insanely fragile, tiny battery phones. If I have to get thickness to squeeze in a 5,500+ mAH battery, so be it. Perfect example would be the Ulefone Power5/5s. That might be a little thicker but it has a freakin' 13,000 mAH battery. Thickness is a sacrifice I'd be willing to make for such a battery; not caring as much about the processor since Mediatek with their P90 is gonna get better.

I don't understand why so many people are fussing over 5G. It's just going to be hot garbage for a couple years at least, in the countries that get them. And other countries would start rolling it out even after that. So 2019's best feature definitely isn't 5G.

Herr Zeba, 13 Jan 2019There nothing exiting yet. Foldable phones will take years ... moreIt requires transparent oled.
Which costs much more than current oled.

High end oled from Samsung costs already more than $300. No way a screen with transparent oled will cost less than $500

None of this. A great battery life that can last for 1 week and charge for an hour like my Nokia 3310

            42.2 MP full frame
            35mm + f2.0 ( can be adjusted to f22) Zeiss
            1080p60 videos

Size : 11,3 cm wide , 6.54 cm tall and 7.2cm thick ( with the less connected)

There nothing exiting yet. Foldable phones will take years to polish. I'm excited for under display selfie camera, hopefully 2010.

Not usable on 87% of the world. Lol

Guess we need to wait for Sony and LG, these companies are very known to drop new features in the smartphone world.

Carol, 13 Jan 2019You forgot something very important. Real privacy! No more ... moreWithin a big family, there isn’t too much privacy, (google groups)
                    invasion of privacy, (Facebook, instagram..)
individual's right to privacy is year's joke
                    Finally, Safari and about privacy
IMO, Data's war is latest war..

I'd like one trend to come back - convenience. Screens that can be conveniently operated with just one hand. Build materials that make the phone durable and easy to hold. All necessary ports, for convenience without dongle shuffling.

Few years ago it was called common sense. Today trends are all that matters.

Anonymous, 13 Jan 2019Cameras with 1" sensors are still years ahead of phones.. ... moreThere already was a phone with 1" camera sensor - Lumix CM1. But with big sensors come big problems - optics. On digital cameras big and bulky optics are not a problem, quite the opposite. Smartphones have to be thin. Meaning a bulky camera is a no-go. That's why few smaller, but supportive sensors are a better option.

Anonymous, 13 Jan 2019Cameras with 1" sensors are still years ahead of phones.. ... moreEven if image quality becomes very similar, I wouldn't get rid of my camera. The photos that come out of it are so much better looking than from any phone in existence, even without looking at the image quality.

Almost smart phone have all necessary features in a polished mode. This is evident that the last few years upgrades are in tune with laptops where processors, RAM, Graphics are the new components with varying storages. Mobiles are also going in that direction. No big radical innovations anticipated but surprisingly the prices are going up every year for nothing!

4G is already good enough; with a modern device I get minimum 100mbit DL / 40 mbit UL everywhere. Cameras is something most people are already quite happy with in most scenarios.

If we think about a feature that could be useful for THE VAST MAJORITY - that would be foldable screens (the ability to turn a smartphone into a tablet and consume web content easier). But announced 1300 eur pricing will make it impossible to become widespread.

Also I won't spend more than 400 eur on a new technology with unknown issues and lifetime (won't be surprised if these phones will be thick, and will maintain picture clarity and perfect screen state only during several months).

No software cam overcome the hardware diferences..

ILCs have 4/3" , APSC , FF or Midformat ... They are much bigger than 1"...

Pocket cameras are not ILC... Many are 1/2.3" , that is why they are weaker than phones but have advantage of variable focsl lenght and true optical zoom.

You will never see a 200mm on any phone. Not even if they use a tiny 1/5" ..

Sony has a cybershot as small as an iphone5 with Full Frame sensor..

The only reason pocket cams are losing ground to phones is the fact people are no longer printing as much as they used too.
People keep on their phones and upload on internet.

Ful Frame sensor has more than 40x the surface area of the popular 12MP 1/2.55" sensor..

Not even counting the dedicated image processor chips like we see on modern TVs.

New FF sensors for 2019 are able to shoot 60MP 20fps 16bit RAW and 8K recording..

                                Poor phones ......

And a program to educate people about the evil in their smartphones and to let them decide what they would like to share with the corporates. Haha i wish.... It will actually only get worse....

Waiting for Nokia 9 with penta lens even if it is sd845, have heard they have also started developing its successor with even big sensors, sd855 and 5G will be release on August.

Just feature-packed phone with affordable prices. That's all.
