One of the issues with Sony mobiles, is they don't seem to take advantage of their camera technology enough. The sensor and camera features make the competition look good, even if they are using Sony sensors.
Companies practice product feature stratification. So, don't matter if the feature or extra sensor, is a minor extra cost (even if less than a cent) if it has a perceived extra value to you which they don't need to compete, they charge you extra, magnitudes extra in some cases. However, if you sell competing products, like low end cameras and phones, who wins the extra features? Ironically, a company that doesn't sell cameras, are more a liberty to include the camera features in their phones, if they know how. But even these companies have to license compression codecs from standards bodies under license conditions, and other technology and sensors from the competition or profiteers who want to stratify their licenses uses, to gain more money from that she with a license to freely use the technology or component. It is a hidden part of the consumer electronics world that controls you, to ensure you pay vastly more money in total, and for JUNK, under legal agreements to keep them out of court and prosecution. So, that's a generalisation about practices likely/proven out there is massive collusion to beat local laws and defraud customers. Please note, I'm talking about some behaviour in the industry performed in some incidents and portion of companies, not accusing any specific company of anything.
So, Sony is at liberty to release phones with the best sensors they can, professional level visually lossless video codecs, 12 bit+ hdr 4:2:2 and Bayer color codec, 48/50/60 fps in the highest resolution possible (4k+) and 3D camera arrays for best picture adjustments, with 20+stop dynamic range, rec2020 color with prosumer/professional controls in software and discrete buttons, switches and dials, like manual everything, and push to auto adjust, and simply blow the competition out of the water and make profit while waiting for them to cine back down again. That is competition. Before anybody doubts it, this stuff above, is current technology, actual able for a while, but s simply best/better practice.
If you want to make footage that will look good for the rest of your life, on some wall sized screen that's going make your 4k 100mb/s h264 footage look bad, and stick out it's faults, or a vr eye set, you need this as a consumer, not just auto AI everything. That is why professionals use most of the above as a minimum, to carefully deliver you a good image.

Truth, 01 Feb 2019I own Xperia X for more than 1.5 years and I love the desig... moreMe too, and almost 1.5 year too, and the size is perfect, i miss the day when this size used to be the middle size between the compact and the premium, look at the xz3 now and compare its size, unfortunately it seems like only pixel managed to make a good use of these new aspect ratios trend by leaving the mobile size the same and increasing screen size and decrease bezels size as they did with the pixel 3.

According to mobile world dictionary gimmick means something called useless because Samsung , Apple nor crappy chinese cheap brands ( bbk sisters and xiaomi) do not use. But when they adopt, feature is called useful by bias youtubers and costumers of these brands ...

The device being called xz4 a... moreI own Xperia X for more than 1.5 years and I love the design so much.
From my point of view the pro's are:
- perfect size
- ideal shape
- display is square but edges are round
- camera is at the same level with the back and the phone stands perfect on the edges
- omnibalance design
- side fingerprint
- dozens of updates from Andriod 6 to 7, 7.1 and 8 and alot of patches
cons:
- non so far, i would like smaller bezels but that is not such a big issue for me.
While I do not plan to chance my phone anytime soon, since I am so happy with it, my next phone for sure will be a Sony.
Go Sony! Best brand ever!

Typical Sony since 2015 they were unable to add this tech to their phones to maximize the sales.
Now when they barelly selling they wake up ah we fiorgot we can use this.
