Sony video teases phones with 3D ToF cameras

Sony acquired the maker of DepthSense in 2015. A possibly related rumor claims next Xperia flagship will use α1 branding and offer lightning fast AF.

    Gaming seems to be ok though it it looks awkward to keep the mobile in one hand. Rest of the immersive experience with overlays looks too artificial and taking the technology in faking too much of real world. Tech by itself amazing but the kind of use cases demonstrated is not going to excite me at least. I like background change AR or Portrait lighting mode but rest of the gimmicks are too faky.

        Should have called it Sony IMX a1, because Xperia a1 sounds like a phone and not a sensor. Unless it is.

          Some sources claim that Sony is collaborating with Apple in this matter and iPhone 12 will have Sony 3d camera.
