Anonymous, 08 Feb 2019How about you pay for premium and you won't get ads then?Apple Music, Google Play Music + YouTube Music, Amazon Prime Music, lots of better choices. Spotify is (was) only useful because it's free. If I were to pay to get rid of ads, Spotify is the last place I would go. Either way, Spotify has no value anymore.

i have been using spotify for 8 years, and right from the start i have paid for their service. having worked for the music industry for a brief period as a producer made me realize that artists deserved compensation for their works. the measly equivalent of $2.75 per month of premium service here in the philippines or the no more than 2MB used for ad every after 3-5 songs is really not enough to pay artists/copyright owners so understandably spotify had to resort to this. i presume those who decry this 5-10 seconds ads do not appreciate the works that go with a single song and therefore do not deserve to listen to them. just like what the other commenter said- if you don't want to be served ads that pay for the content owners' works, then don't listen to the content- simple as that. rather it is you who refuse to pay for the content they consume are the terrorists, not spotify.

Anonymous, 08 Feb 2019How is Spotify's action here "dirty stuff"?It's like those news websites who tried to block users who used an adblecker.

What happened instead was that they instantly lost a huge number of readers affecting their reputation and revenue and some of them actually went back and replaced the blocking methods with kind messages appealing to user's accord of whitelisting.

Ads are essentially a form of content.
Every human being is allowed to decide by himself what form of content he wants to consume and what he does not want to consume. Messing with that is dirty and immoral.

Discogs, auctions, thrifts, friends & relatives for older releases (first pressings >> than brickwalled compressed remasters). And AFAIK it's not illegal to make ONE or maybe even several? archival copies (FLAC while at that, or even WAV cause why not? Mechanical storage is relatively cheap nowadays) for PERSONAL use.
Oh, and consider the services where you actually GET the file and not the RIGHT to play it when the rightholder is "in the mood" for your region.

I would also say that they can go and do something to themselves, but my comment wouldn't be published then, so i won't.

The thing is : all users are useful users.
Even those who not pay Spotify directly can recommend Spotify to their friends and family.
Those might as well be potential paid customers that Spotify could lose if it starts doing dirty stuff about freedom of content reception.

I think spotify is smarter than that.

Why bother, it is not like those ad block users are going to convert to a paying one.
Besides, I don't get their service unless you are a person who likes their playlists.
