Imagine playing PUBG on this phone, and you get to see pretty much everyone due to that very wide perspective.

Hopefully new features will be more useful than face scan, at least I found animoji more interesting.
Also giving meaning for perspective to aspect ratio or resolution is not enough for a flagship, it needs to mean whole experience including also software. How can they otherwise wish to get attention of customers back from its rivals, who go beyond just ordinary smartphone...

Modern smartphone users want epic battery life and epic cameras. They'll take a hit one, if the other is superb. This tiny bezel thing is not the driver that companies think, nor is an ultrawide/tall display. Look at Iphones, look at their bezels, only in the last couple of years have they been the lowest bezel sizes. But, they have always had camera that were decent, and adding to that a "cool" factor and a beginner friendly UI. Their premium status and coolness got them a lot of passes. As for Android, coolness is not a thing. Where Sony go wrong is by having small sized batteries, and just ok cameras. HTC have great cameras, but poor screens, and they sap battery life. Wireless charging, a good sized battery, a good screen, a great camera, and you have a winner. Sony make the sensors, but fail with the software. They added rubbish like a damned rumble pack, HTC added barely consistent buttonless buttons. Samsung and Huawei know that you need a big battery phone in your line up. They also know that a great screen helps. They also offer very good cameras.

Sony seems to have a lot of very interesting features (many firsts too) on phones, therefore I am not sure why they dont do too well.
In many ways it seems to have a parallel with HTC.

Hope sony shows samsung that they are nothing compare to japanese innovation and technology. Samsung are just big in marketing and nothing else, they don't innovate just copy ideas and make them. Period.

2) you cant keep front speaker with note9 bezel size unless they use Acoustic Surface like their Bravia Oled.
3) all flagships 2020 will be 21:9 , screen of the QHD device comes from Samsung. Soon or later Galaxy will have it too.
4) cam records 21:9, this mode would be awful on 18:9
5) no content on 18:9
6) there is content made pretty close to 21:9
