I wish they would focused on designing a bigger sensor instead of just trying to reach a higher mp count, I also disagree with the statement about higher mp being in demand, its not so much that its in demand, its that certain brands in select market are in high demand, these devices are also flagships in their respective markets and carry high end components, and sell well regardlesss of having 50mp sensors on the back, it just so happens that the high end market has these cameras, so the demand is not necessarily for the camera but for the device if that makes sense, look at apple and samsung for example, they only have 12mp cameras, yet they are still market leading often, if you stuck a 100mp camera on the back i doubt it would sell more, just a marketing gimmick really

Of the building, you can clearly make out the railing on the parapet on the note 7 pro shots, easily see that there are 2 of them. While on the s10 its a lot more blurred. Might just be because it does more noise removing.

As for the 48 mp shot being the same as the 12mp, it surprised me too, the view 20 does the same thing.
But the view 20 seems to get more details than the xs in the verge comparison, but i dont know how the s10 would have performed there.

Even the first shot where he said details were much better on the 7 pro they weren't. Just slightly less processed. Even the 48mp barely had any more detail than it's own 12mp output or the s10. In fact it didn't really look more detailed at all.

This is one i found, dont know if it "reputable" enough for you, the honor view 20 vs iphone xs, view 20 has the same sensor as note 7 pro.

I'm sorry but no. These 12mp shots lack detail if anything. All they do is use heavy noise reduction and artificial sharpening. Giving it less detail.
The only thing these 12mp sensors have been good for is their dynamic range with multi stacking and their dual pixel focus.
