Who cares about "thinner"? I bet those interested in a compact phone would prefer it to be 15mm thick but under 5"

It would take masterclass engineering and development in order to do such device and who would cover the cost then? Such device would most likely cost any manufacturer close to a grand just to break even. It's a no go, great idea though but in reality you can't have such tiny display with no bezels in a such tight packaging with latest internals and battery larger than 3,000.
To reply to other's claim of S10e being compact the answer is no, it's not a compact phone in a sense of Sony compact line. It might be a compact compared to S10 line but it's right there with S8-S9 who were a bit taller but also a bit narrower. XZ2C on the other hand is close to 8mm shorter and 5mm narrower and XZ2C itself is not a true compact in Sony's line up of other compacts that used to be under 130mm high.
Ok you can say times are changing to compact of today is not what compact used to be years ago but one handed grip and use is something compact should do right? XZ2C is barely a one handed design due to nonsense tall 2:1 screen where you cant reach the top notification drawer comfortably. But that's also Androids mistake cause they never did anything to support tall screens, they just gave up and said people are going to use two hands from now on.
What XZ2C does right is the balanced weight and thickness. Small devices need to be thick and need to be 160+ grams heavy in order to hold the phone properly. Who ever is arguing that XZ2C is too thick has never held the device in their hand cause the true thickness is about 8mm while the rest goes to your palm not the grip. There is nothing worse than paper thin small device.

Freaking Sony! It's not about the width that makes it compact, it's the tallness err the SHORTNESS of the phone. God, I hate the Japanese way of not taking risks!

If 5,7 inch phone is called compact then in next 20 years they will call a 50 inch device a compact one.

You know what, I am either waiting to get S10e for a decent price, ORRR, I am getting an XZ2 Compact and save even more money, and be happy with my 1080p HDR "Compact"ish phone with front facing stereo speakers and S845 performance, instead of S710 21:9 "midranger", though if I win the lottery tomorrow, I'd get the flagship Xperia 1 that's for sure :D

They need 9mm to fit 2700 inside XZ1c.
There was no space for a 13MP selfie like XZ1.
Imagine huge battery.
Oled is only 0.5mm thinner than LCD.

Sony, no one asks for a remote control. It's no longer a compact. I can understand the xperia 1 to be cinema wide and targets specific customers but please not the compact. Just put the XZ2c screen on the XZ1c body with P-OLED screen and bigger battery (4000mAH)

With smaller bezels and different aspect ratios, 6" phones are the norm and 6.4" phones are the large phones. So "small" phones are now bigger than 5".

please, put in the decent battery, you want compact phone when you are not willing to carry much with you, dont have bag with you to carry powerbank and charger. people who buy compact phone hold phone in pocket and its ridiculous to have another phone sized powerbank in other pocket. please, make compact phone with battery what lasts full long day continuous using on your train or flight trip or net-surfing in jungle house away from power, and then after that you will have enough power to make calls and have google-maps to show you way to walk.
