Sony Xperia 4 might replace the Compact line, will have a 21:9 screen

20 March 2019
The idea is this: keep the width at 65mm, same as the Compact phones, but make the phone taller. This will be a mid-range model, though.

        Sony, I need a top-tech compact phone!

User of Z1 compact, Z5 compact and now XZ1 compact (when I saw XZ2's lack of 3.5mm).
I feel the thickness is the only real compromise I made.
          I like very much:
          - the series (well, not the Z1) side power button+fingerprint scanner
          - powerful CPU in small package (note: 4-core, even 2+2, is enough for me, so going to lower tier is ok; includes LTE support)
          - "brick" format (all sides planar, maybe a little more corner rounding could work)

But for this extra length, I would not switch. Man, I miss the Razr xt890 shape. That's the phone that I felt good holding it.

Even Samsung A40 with it's 5.9 screen can be said compact over this Sony Xperia 4 bs.

149mm is too big for Compact. I have now 144mm and it's big for me. Meh Sony, wake up.

Anonymous, 20 Mar 2019aw, guess, i will settle for xperia 1 until an uncompromise... moreGo for a galaxy S10e, much more thinner and compact than the XZ2c and you've the last generation of hardware.

A good way to wait that Sony finally decides to produce a real successor to the Z3 compact.

First try to release the Xperia 1 which was announced in February.

65mm is definitely the sweet spot (or even smaller is better). But too bad Sony isn't making flagship compacts anymore. They'll still fail, but they won't fail as hard. If they had made a flagship this narrow, I would have been all over it.

This one looks great. Just keep the camera tech as per the price. See what the competitor like Samsung, Huawei etc offering at the same price as Xperia 4. This will make you a winner atleast amongst the Sony fans.

Looks promising. SD710 is fine, give it an lcd screen and a headphone jack too keeps stereo speakers, and I ll be ready to cash out for another Sony...

Meh. You still have to stretch your thumb to pull down the notification bar. It would be much better to see well spec'd 5'' 16:9, like first Google Pixel was. I don't get this fashion for still taller and taller screens. When iPhone 5 came in, there were plenty of memes laughing from it's taller screen and predicting iPhone 20 as scyscraper-high (remeber Obi-Wan with iPhone-saber?). It seems they were more true than we thought.

Make it fold-able and I'll think about it.
