Anonymous, 22 Mar 2019Sony Xperia 1 has only 6 mp display. 4K is 8 mp. So Stop th... moreIf it's a lie then it''s not Sony who's the Liar. ALL 4K TVs AND DISPLAYS ARE MARKETED IN SUCH A MANNER!!!! Some marketing freak got in and suggested to put 4K as close to horizontal pixels just to advertise as if you are getting more. SO, STOP BEING OVER REACTIVE or STOP Protesting. You should have done this a decay before. And for your knowledge, this standard wasn't brought by Sony. Just know the country behind international standardization, which is to be blamed!

JoelRaj-1002, 22 Mar 2019But mostly all 2k phone are doing the same, but mostly the ... more4K and 1080p have ratio 4:1.
That is why you can switch between.
But it is the UI, not the screen.
QHD is 1,6 FHD. There is no way to do that.
They tell you they do it is because most of apps run 1080p or less.
No app runs QHD.
For oled phones it is even bigger lie. From QHD to FHD phone would need to turn off 60% of the pixels. How could the rest work on whole screen? They do not get bigger by merging themselves ..

So, what's the % of efficiency? Does Sony really thinks that 3300 mAh battery has enough juice to run it in such a mode for a whole day?

Walter C. Dornez, 22 Mar 2019What? Nobody wanted this.Hey Walter. If by yourself don't take this as an objection, let me explain what happened. I can be possibly wrong at a point, but this is how far I know. So, back in 2015, when the world's first 4K smartphone was introduced at IFA 2015, yes, the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, launched, it took by a storm in the tech community and world when finding out that Z5 Premium has 4K and they speculated 4K will drain the battery and always on all the time. But in case that had been found before, Z5 Premium doesn't run 4K all the time, but rather rendering it into 4K at native contents. Result? Another criticism, backlash, mockery was given to Z5P again, this time questioning why using 4K panel when it doesn't run 4K all the time. So website of tech even made an article about it. Sony at this point quite unmoved with the criticism.
Despite being criticized, Sony continued to released 4K screen smartphone again in 2017 with the famously-loved Xperia XZ Premium with the first 4K HDR screen and using the same method of Z5P (only displaying and rendering 4K on native-content while FHD on non-native one). This method followed again by Sony's first rear-dual cam phone and doing both 4K HDR on recording and watching, the XZ2 Premium.
Possibly, by the time Sony's CEO changed into Kenichiro Yoshida in early 2018 (around Q1'18), restructurisation took place, including Sony Mobile itself. And one of them is by listening to both media and fans wants in the first place, and one of them is making the 4K screen native all the time, where it's useless to have 4K but only spoiled when there's one, as some media stated. XZ2P was already in almost-done developing, including the AUBE Fusion ISP Processor that powered the XZ2P, was ready for MWC 2018, only was released April 2018 due to a bug and last-minute differentiation and edits for the XZ2P. So, it was too late to implemented native 4K rendering on XZ2P. So, Xperia 1 was the first to include it under the new umbrella of Sony.
I don't know if you want to deny my words or not, but that's far I know the story behind why Xperia 1 giving it a full 4K all the time. I'll reply to you more soon if you want to. And this writing could spark more controversies if more replies come. I could be wrong once again.

[deleted post]Wait ,hold up! That's true... I remember all the bashing on XZ premium becos it's native to 1080 and only goes 4k when rendering a 4k content.
With all the explanation sony gave that there was no need for 4k all the time except when viewing 4k content, people still wanted to mu.der them
I totally remember that saga... Now its 4k all the time and a riot is brewing. Well, if its Sony, its a crime.

Shanti Dope, 22 Mar 2019The 5G one might be the true Premium one with a true 4K 21:... more1/2.3" is too big for OIS.
All phones with imx586 (1/2") do not have it.
Huawei does not use anymore.
Module becomes bigger with OIS added. It is like the tyre around the wheel.

Anonymous, 22 Mar 2019There are two gossips of more two devices with SD855.
Ther... moreThe 5G one might be the true Premium one with a true 4K 21:9 resolution (5120x2160) and a Quad Camera setup.
My hopes for the Quad Camera Sony phone would be something identical to the Xperia 1 but with upgraded sensors and additional camera:
-Main: 66.6MP 1/1.5", f/1.8, OIS, DRAM (2GB), quad bayer filter
-Telephoto: 12MP 1/2.6", f/2.4, OIS
-UltraWide: 16MP or 20MP, 1/2.3", f/1.8, OIS
-Monochrome: 12MP 1/2.3", f/1.4, OIS
The 4G one you're saying might be this Xperia 1. I really do hope that the new Sony sensor becomes official already.

Walter C. Dornez, 22 Mar 2019That's a stupid ass idea. 4k all the time with a 3300 mAh b... moreNope. Screen itself is the lesser energy consumer on a mobile device. Top one is android and UI, second internet connections, third apps.
Its UI managment and optimizations that count how much SoT device can achieve. And SoT is actually the battery life the user experiences, not the screen dependant video onscreen time, or 4g calls, unless you watch movies all the time, every single day, for over 10 hrs per day, or make phone calls over 10hrs a day.
Some 4000 maH phones achieve around 6 hrs SoT as reported by users, but so does Xperia 10 with measly 2800 maH also as reported by users (difference in battery testing here is about 20 hr between some devices, yet users achieving same SoT).
And This info only means this time UI will be in 4k, all the rest same as previous 4k screen models.

I've got the xz premium. I actually don't mind the rendering in 1080p and 4k in certain apps when content requires it. Even with 3200 mah, battery has been rock solid.
I'm hoping the xperia 1 with it's 3300 can at least match that and full on 4k rendering has minimal affect on battery consumption. We'll see.

QHD++, but still great, old premium was running FHD full time. Its 6mp vs 8mp in old, but oled and detail rendering and pixels should be different, just test 4K Sample.
