Anonymous, 30 Mar 2019This doesn't look good... I hope this helps them make some ... moreHave the same opinion, but I am not sure if Xperia will survive. They could be leading in the smartphone market, if they would put all the knowledge in smarthphone, for example alpha team. But their strategy did not paid off and now it is too late. I wish xperia good luck. I am currently using xz premium and waiting for xperia 1.

They got the idea & concept, but fail execution. Been a Sony flagship user since Sony Ericsson W705 until Xperia Z5, before change to Huawei/Honor. Luckily i made the right choice. From pricing standpoint, battery, storage, stability, camera are far better than i experience with Sony. And the newer Xperia 1 specs are just play safe, no new things except for that 21:9 screen. I want Sony to succeed, but guess they wont. My TV, Home Theatre, headphones, earphones, car player all are Sony, but not their smartphone. I loose interest on it since Z5.

They loose for obvious reasons, not giving users what others offer for too long. High battery endurance, new sensors, screen to body ratio, price to performance ratio like from xiaomi, wearables, tablets are just few to mention.
Most of all they failed at delivering what they are best at: camera and game centric device. Display losing in color calibration to samsung or apple it's also quite shameful. Xperia1 should be better but still lacks all mentioned besides camera. Even that still lags, if it does not offer object and word AI recognition, animojis and the likes.

tigerbomb1996, 30 Mar 2019goodbye sonyIf you think that Sony exiting from the market will make you life better good luck with that. People like you are the reason for some problems in this world

This is sad to hear. Unfortunately Sony are just not relevant in the handset space anymore.
Personally, I think it has more to do with the hierarchical business model favoured by the Japanese, which has older men, very few women and a kind of (stick to tradition) mentality, which does not foster younger more youthful new ideas and allow them to penetrate the decision makers board room meetings. I wish I could say there was hope for Sony but in my opinion, there is not. For such a great company to make so many poor products year after year after year, is quite simply incompetence in the leadership of the division. Sony needs to completely rethink its direction, get in new younger leadership and have a look at the turn around of Microsoft and the amazing and continued evolution of Nintendo for inspiration.

Anonymous, 30 Mar 2019Don't you try the S10e?S10e has no telephoto camera. Wish Huawei make something proper in a size of S10e, but with full P30 camera setup, wireless charging, IP68, Infrared port etc.

Sony lost its users since they bought out Ericsson.
They made Xperia S then updated it last beacuse of old phones, next update its last beacuse of new phone and not to mention poor quality. Z1 was awesome phone but wit dated hardware, Z3 was poor quality phone since that i never bought xperia again. Switched to Samsung S8 and never had any problems which i expect for money i gave for it

Oh, and glass backs are cancer. Z5 series was the only good example of glass backs ever produced. On other phones they don't look as good as metal or plastic, they don't feel as good as metal and they aren't as durable as metal or plastic.

You must hav... morePeople usually buy with both, their eyes and which is more appealing for them with the less cost possible. And tech lovers want all the features available and the best hardware. Sony has failed for both groups and the sales show it. Overpriced mid-range phones with only basic features and low specs. Ugly designs that now looks like TV remote controls instead of a phone. The cinema ratio will only works for few ones. Wider screens are preferred for general content and gaming. Those are taller phones are now called giraffes. And before with too conservative and dated designs while competitors were evolving a lot.

And for the tech lovers, Sony has failed in several ways like in camera software. And still do aside how the Xperia 1 could perform. Again this year, their mid-range phones are bad in image quality of their photos agaist the cheaper competition. If you add that they removed features like the audio jack, and some tech attractive ones like 3D face ID scanning, ToF, IR, now under display fingerprint sensor, etc. They failed bringing full features too while other competitors offer it. Even their mid-range phones have lower resolution that desired. Only the most expensive one has a good display this year.

I was using Sony (Ericsson) phones for like 10 years, but they screwed it.

Sony had a lot of problems. The biggest was offering too little for too much. Pricing was Sony's single biggest problem. If you are not Apple, Samsung or Huawei why are you pricing like them? Sony actually had a loyal customer base at one point. We liked glass backs and straight lines. So Sony Mobile decided to change both of these. I'm surprised it took this long after that.

I reject all those stupid gimmicks you mention, but I don't think I can live with an Xperia 1 screen ratio (not a movie on smartphone fan here). Perhaps the Note 9 is the best option around these days. If only it had a side fingerprint.

As an ex HTC, LG and Sony user, the heart break just gets worse. I use a Samsung but it's a forced choice. Google removed Nexus line (Pixel lite may help), Motorola is a former shadow, Oppo/Vivo/Xiaomi etc. are good/average/okay but not my cup of tea, OnePlus is now premium but not fully, Huawei EMUI is a big NO so soon there will be fewer choices and 0 practical innovations. Still cherish my time with Xperia X.
