Samsung Galaxy S10 5G has the best camera yet according to DxOMark

16 April 2019
The combined score for the rear camera matches the Huawei P30 Pro, but the S10 5G pulls ahead with a much better selfie camera.

Hahaha huawei fans are soooo angry. All this hype just to match galaxy s10+. For info go and check results huawei have 99 in zoom vs 70 from samsung it is the main point why huawei match this score. This gimmick 10x zoom only helped huawei to have great score. Other that samsung is far better and please don’t be jealous huawei will never be better than samsung haha

DxO is funny these times... Their testing procedure is outdated. It's clear if you want real progress in camera department you buy the P30 Pro today, but DxO findigns suggest you otherwise. Samsung's cameras are nothing new since the S9, same general quality, much less detail than the P30 Pro sensor can get with it's 10 MPix output from 40 MPix sensor.

LOL that's hilarious. The samsung excels only in 4k video and selfies. The p30 just destroys it in low light photography, zoom and macros. The second you're not taking perfectly lit daylight photos and the samsung becomes completely inferior in most scenarios.

DXOmark Mobile's benchmark scores keep on inreasing despite ABSOLUTELY NEGLIGIBLE (or worse, ZERO improvements) in photo and video quality from last year's phones to this year's phones, to phones 2-3 years ago.

Learning to use MANUAL CONTROLS offered by your existing smartphone would have made much more dramatic photo/video quality impact and improvement than buying a new smartphone and still using AUTO mode all the time.

The truth is, smartphone manufacturers are collaborating with DXOmark mobile to project a DISTORTED PERSPECTIVE that newer phones have dramatically increased in photo and video quality through the years when in fact they have remained virtually unchanged - still a horrible, blotchy, watercolor noisy faceless mess in low light, and still a bokeh fail in faces, and focus fail in fireworks capture, low light capture and behind cages/railings video capture--- for as long as the person behind the camera never grows up and refuses to be weaned from full auto, AI and other scene and effects modes.

Real photo and video quality cannot dramatically improve with larger DxOMark mobile benchmark scores, well, just because there are more fake blur effects, more AI and scene modes, more cameras in a phone, more zoom options, more megapixels, etc.

The EVER INCREASING photo/video benchmark scores of DXOmark mobile have absolutely nothing to do with better photo and video quality coming from the smartphone. They are there just to project a FALSE sense of video and photo quality improvement EVERY YEAR in order TO SELL - to mislead naive buyers they need to buy new camera phones every year because well, there's a new 'high score', there's a new photo/video smartphone king, which they think means it'll make their low light photos MAGICALLY better, when in fact, all improvement they are seeing is PLACEBO effect from DXOmark mobile's over the top ratings and placebo effect from the smartphone's $1,000++ price tag and flashy celebrity endorsements and bragging rights from the brand.

Save your money. Learn photography basics. Learn how to use manual modes on your existing smartphone. Learn how to use slow shutter with flash, manual focus and ISO control and I'm 100% sure you'll get WAAAY so much better photos and videos from your 2-3 year old smartphone with a DXOmark mobile rating of 81 than one from these newest $1,000++ flagship smartphones that have a DxOMark mobile rating of 112+++ or more.

I am using Samsung Galaxy s10 plus and previously note 8 i am not techie .but I feel cameras/display of note 8 were better and i regret trading off my note 8 what I observed from current flagship mobile competition is Samsung is feeling heat from huawei p30 pro and that's why they are trying to create perception that s10 plus cameras are not bad. however a 10 plus has better battery life and very loud stereo speakers.

Cir90, 17 Apr 2019Sony's camera are the best only they do not pay to dxomark. As a person that came from Sony to Huawei, a big no. Sony still lagging behind both on image quality & versatility.

But i'll hold my judgement on next Xperia 1, eventhough it just has a play safe hardware on camera department.

Shadow Snypa786, 16 Apr 2019Wow the salty fanboys :D The P30 Pro only wins in night ... moreStop eating delusion flakes cereal

You honestly think having 1.5 aperture over the p30 pro and software only will overcome the massive camera sensor size and the physics of yellow light taking in 40% more light (ryyb) of the p30 pro?

And you went as far to even say it could even beat the p30pro

You should consider writing fiction as a potential career

Shadow Snypa786, 16 Apr 2019Wow the salty fanboys :D The P30 Pro only wins in night ... moreI agree with you for the 4K60 part, but for everything else, your comment is far from being accurate.
                      "Samsung does better selfies images"
Source? Of course apart from DxOMark.

"can record in 4k video with front camera"
But P30 Pro supports real time video HDR.

"has an extra camera sensor (TOF) for better bokeh/portraits"
So does P30 Pro. Unlike S10 5G, P30 series supports portrait/aperture mode at any focal length between 27 and 80/125mm though, and for some reason I can only use this feature with the primary camera on my regular Galaxy S10.

                      "has superior 1080p video stablisation"
Yes and no. That's only true when you use Super Steady mode, which sacrifices everything else in order to get better stabilisation, plus you'll be stuck with fixed focus as well.

"the wide angle is even wider"
And you'll get more barrel distortion and purple fringing, and the detail level is inferior to P30 Pro's super wide angle lens due to the lack of autofocus and aggressive detail smoothening.

"Samsung has f1.5 while Huawei have f1.6 so theoretically the galaxy devices can receive more light"
F stop only indicates the ratio of the focal length and the lens diameter, so F1.6 lens on P30 Pro takes in far more light than S10's F1.5 lens: you can literally see and compare them side by side, P30 Pro's camera lens looks massive compared to S10.
As for the night mode, just don't expect Night Sight or Night Mode level of miracle. The lens isn't very sharp in F1.5 mode which means no matter how good the software is the detail level won't be a match for either Pixel or P30 Pro. It will still be an improvement over Bright Night mode or whatever the garbage they're using right now though.

That's just show how corrupt DxOMark is. Score = money.

Ah, so free extra 3 points on video recording for setting the default resolution to 4K. I'm betting Mate 30 Pro will have the same setting by default, because you know, now Huawei knows about it, and I'm sure every other company will eventually follow their suit as well.

The improvement in bokeh is perfectly understandable considering that the telephoto lens is now available for Live Focus and the edge detection has become more accurate thanks to the newly added ToF sensor. Everything else is pretty much the same as the rest of S10 series though, from great WB accuracy and exposure to poor detail rendition and low light performance.. It's time for Samsung to step up their game and use a larger sensor instead of relying on a F1.5 aperture lens which doesn't really do anything but only serves as a marketing stunt.

Shadow Snypa786, 16 Apr 2019Wow the salty fanboys :D The P30 Pro only wins in night ... moreP30 doesnt even need Night Mode for low light photography. Big camera sensor + RYYB + f1.6 + ISO 409600 + AI computational photography is enough to throw all competition out of the water. S10 might be better in video, no doubt about that, but on low lights? Nahhhhh. Considering S10 5g version has same hardware as S10+ with just TOF sensor added (which P30 pro already has it in the 1st place).

P30 auto vs Pixel 3 Night Sight:

It may be my own opinion, but the reviews made by DxOMark is not so surprising to many people now. I am not sure whether it is being sponsored or supported by any brands, but their reviews recently is quite bias. Smartphone camera experience is a whole thing, not just a competition of any hardware or software.

I am sick of DxOMark giving undeserving phones the best camera when its camera has issues such as overly saturated/unrealistic photos, overexposure, too much sharpening, selfie camera is VERY sub-par and hasn't improved despite the extra cutouts for depth sensor, video recording is not as stable and smooth as iphone Xs. I don't think DxO can be trusted. I remembered them giving HTC U12 camera a very high score when it couldn't even compete with the other flagships at that time and had so many issues/lacking features. It's laughable...
