Samsung Galaxy S10 5G has the best camera yet according to DxOMark

16 April 2019
The combined score for the rear camera matches the Huawei P30 Pro, but the S10 5G pulls ahead with a much better selfie camera.

Sort by:

I suppose the LG G8 would score similarly because it's literally as great as the S10.
And the Alpha-tuned triple camera on the Xperia 1? Hell yeah!

AnonD-784107, 16 Apr 2019Huawei P30 pro is top smartphone on dxomark website. S10 5G... moreBecause it was arranged alphabetically that's why huawei is still on top. But basically they are sharing the no.1 spot.

      Lol benchmarks.

Regardless, it goes to show that huawei isn't as ahead of the class as it advertises itself to be. The company is just incredibly arrogant.

There is a firmware update, and I am guessing there are 1-2 more in the offing, to improve photography and videography scores.

Read these bits (from the DXO site's detailed test and review) along with my post mentioning that software updates for the camera are in the pipeline.

"What’s particularly surprising is that the S10 5G achieves this new high Video score using the same cameras as in the S10+, which scored 97 points for Video in our test. The biggest change is that Samsung modified the default video recording mode to 4K resolution, which helps improve the phone’s texture, noise, and artifact scores."

        And

"The S10 5G’s Photo score also gets a bump, in large part because Samsung has shifted the primary lens it uses for bokeh-enhanced portraits from the wide-angle to the telephoto lens (you can still use the wide-angle if you prefer, though). This helps reduce the distortion caused by shooting portraits at a short focal length. Other than the improved scores thanks to the higher-resolution default for video and the lens change for bokeh, the test results and sub-scores for the 5G version are very similar to those of the S10+, since the specs for the primary camera hardware in both models are the same. However, there are also some less-visible but important improvements to such features as flash, for example."

First huawei p30 pro has a tof 3d camera sensor
Samsung s10's camera sensoe is too small 1/2.55" sensor even a 150$ phone redmi note 7 has a bigger 1/2" sensor (btw the sensor size is the main differenciating part between a smartphone and a dslr bigger sensor means more light and less noise) p30 pro has 1/1.7" for the wide angle huawei has an advantage thanks to its autofocus
Even if samsung ads a night mode it can't came close to huawei's night shots because huawei has more iso bigger sensor and especially the RYB (red yellow blue) color array against samsung's RGB(red green blue) the yellow light frequency is more sensetive so it can absorb more light
For the selfie camera no one said that huawei is better we all know that the selfie is better in samsung

            I hope the Xperia 1 doesn't disappoint.

I've explained my comment in detail, so i will not rewrite the same. My point is short & simple. Dxomark is not credible anymore. They adjust the parameters of their reviews to overrate or underrate the phone they're reviewing (as per the "requirement"). A good example of that is how they highly overrated P20 Pro last year even though it was not the best, and yet they highly underrated the Sony XZ3 this year even though it is far better than their review makes it look like. That is all I'm saying.

"Please note: The camera firmware used for the DxOMark tests is not yet currently available to consumers. Samsung will make it available as an over-the-air update before the end of the month."

Which means the Improvement in camera quality will happen with a firmware before the end of this month. It May or May Not include the Night Sight kind of shooting capabilities. But that firmware is coming along Too.

Having used huawei and samsung devices over the years, i'd still go with huawei. Samsung is indeed feature-packed but has worse quality than huawei in my experience.

This means that the S10 series will get a firmware update and will have the same capabilities as the 5G model. IceUniverse had already mentioned a firmware update for further improving camera performance is on its way. The 5G version already has this firmware. So the models released before it will get it too.

Shadow Snypa786, 16 Apr 2019Wow the salty fanboys :D The P30 Pro only wins in night ... morelet's not jump to conclusion before that phantom night mode update actually happen...theoretically and practically that RYYB color filter on Huawei phones collect more light, so hardware also counts here.

Pixel87, 16 Apr 2019False, p30 pro still remains the camera king. S105G doesn't... moreAnd P30 pro takes worse selfies, has worse video stablisation, and cant even record 4k 60fps even with the "mighty" kirin 980, and a less wide angle lens than the Galaxy S10 5G. ;)

                                        Wow the salty fanboys :D

The P30 Pro only wins in night mode and 5X Zoom.

Samsung does better selfies images, can record in 4k video with front camera, has an extra camera sensor (TOF) for better bokeh/portraits, has superior 1080p video stablisation, can record in 4k 60fps, the wide angle is even wider on the samsung galaxy S10 5G.

Samsung has f1.5 while Huawei have f1.6 so theoretically the galaxy devices can receive more light. All Samsung have to do is a software update and add night mode and on paper it should be as good if not better than Huawei's. But then the Huawei and Pixl fanboys would be crying how Samsung copied and did it better e.g reverse wireless charging :P
