Folding phones are going to be plagued with severe issues for at least 3-4 generations. Recalling it was a smart move. Huawei and Xaiomi will just suffer similar problems assuming they even release one

Anonymous, 23 Apr 2019Samsung wanted to beta Huawei real bad so they released it ... moreDurable? A flexible screen always exposed.... It sounds to me like a nightmare of scratches...

And the least the Samsung design folds in on it self, thus protecting the delicate surface (like old clam shells)

But let us wait and see when Huawei release it, if BOE have invented a new magic material that is both hard, soft and transparent.... Until I see it scratch-tested impartially, I doubt it...

MY guess for this first generation will be that Samsung Fold will be pestered with issues around the fold, and Huawei X will be pestered with scratches.

BUT if Huawei supplies it with a stack of cheap ELASTIC protection films (first one factory mounted) and easily replaceable by the user regularly (e.g. monthly), then they MIGHT well end up the winner of the first generation. As equally simple workarounds for the more advanced fold on Samsung's is harder to see.

AND if several of Samsung's have various issues after only a few days usage by testers, it sounds like a rushed product, that should have had more time with a tester-group and real life usage before going out to be reviewed.

Samsung show that some reviewers are cavemen, or clickbaiters. Can’t handle the new tech.

So, higher risk of damage from external sources. Granted, samsung's damage seems to be coming from within the phone itself, i still think a fold in design is better. We can only speculate till the huawei releases.

Shame it was a good initiative by Samsung.

Huawei has nothing to do with the launch date. This year has been teased for almost two years. The reason they're revising the design seems to be a revision on how to keep dirt getting stuck behind the display.
The Huawei "design" is never going to launch as it will never work with a plastic OLED display. It's so DOA they haven't even bothered designing a functional case for it, just a useless bag to hold it in when it's not being used.

Samsung wanted to beta Huawei real bad so they released it first. but its backfired on them.

Huawei even said their design is more robust than the Fold but no one believed them, looks like its true from the facts so far.

Huaweis Mate X will be more durable and also looks 3 gens ahead looks wise

Akinaro, 23 Apr 2019Nothing bad. Its normal when new technology hit, sadly, dum... moreI disagree. We are already forced to pamper our phones too much these days. Back in the days we didn't use to put cases & screen protectors on our phones, and they still didn't break easily when dropped. Modern phones break up too easily. We shouldn't have to pamper our phones so much. In fact all modern phones should have MIL-STD-810G certification along with IP68 certification & shatter-proof displays (perhaps based on the microcracks approach). Also exteriors should be made with similar material.

Phones should adapt to their users, not the other way around.
