Manufacturers are expected to launch low-end smartphones with the tech by the end of 2019.

Anonymous, 26 Apr 2019The most expensive TVs are LCD .... Sony just announced... moreWow, that's insane!
Anyway, OLED is still generally more expensive than LCD of similar specifications.

Anonymous, 26 Apr 2019Micro Led does not allow camera behind screen, exactly wha... moreWell, nobody really needs a camera behind the screen, and a screen at the back is the real solution to get rid of the front camera completely (it's inferior in quality to the main cameras anyway, so what's the point?)
    Manufacturers must realize that thing.

For now, they definitely do cost more, just as OLED is significantly more expensive than LCD in the past, but has definitely gotten cheaper and closer to LCD cost production.
Same thing will happen to microLED, it will just take time.

I don't see the point of foldable phones. Aren't the current huge-a** phones we have today already enough?
For that, OLEDs will be better suited, but as we can see, the demand ain't really that high, indicating how insignificant it is to most people.

Anonymous, 26 Apr 2019Few of the Galaxy J had oled, because since they belonged ... moreThat's actually the good thing with collaboration, and Samsung should've still used the display as a major advantage over their competitors for the same price segment, all while bringing even more compelling phones to rival and even surpass many Chinese budget offerings.
If the Galaxy A20 had the same Super AMOLED display as the A50, I'm pretty sure it'll be an even tougher competitor to something like the Redmi Note 7.

I'm not really suggesting all OEMs to go full OLED in a sudden. Switching to the new technology will be gradual, and they should do it as early as today or next year, so that when the production rate is already sufficient, then that'll be the time to go full OLED and abandon LCD completely.
Again, there are many new OLED manufacturers entering the competition, which would massively help reduce the cost of OLED panels even further without compromising in the quality.

Any phone with LCD will definitely lose out to OLED of the same segment. That's why smartphone manufacturers must already start utilizing OLED on some of their high end devices at least, and gradually abandon LCDs.

AnonD-558092, 26 Apr 2019That sounds wonderful, BUT 1: Are yields high? Otherwise p... more1 - Many screen manufacturers have entered the game. BOE and JDI are preparing their factories for even higher rate of production of OLED panels, and that is to somehow sustain the demand for the panels for high end devices at least. More suppliers mean less workload for each one of those manufacturers, which in turn will allow them to reduce their prices since the pressure for production will be lessened.
And as I was saying, the newly discovered cheaper alternative process of making an OLED panel will help make OLED screens more affordable, and once the manufacturers utilize this technique, then we would all benefit from lower cost productions of OLEDs without compromising the quality of the panels themselves. So in short, yes it will be sustained because of the new players that entered the game.

2 - In relation to more players in the OLED game that I've stated above, I'm pretty sure that there'd be some competition among them. The competition then will inspire the manufacturers to produce higher quality panels, since they'd be out of the game if they can't.
In that competition, we customers would expect nothing short of great panels from the suppliers.

I dont know why people are so opsesed about amoled displays. Recently my grandmother brought a mate 20. The mate 9 is noticeably brighter that mate 9. So far I have compared the mate 9 with s8, s9, P20 pro, mate 20 Pro, note 9 and still mate 9 is the brightest of them all. The black levels for an lcd is very good.and cost to replace the display is much more cheaper than amoled. The mate 9 display is the main reason keeping me from upgrade

I mean, even Sony is now starting to make a balance between an OLED flagship TV and IPS LCD flagship, and only LG is pretty much full OLED on their high end lineup since they have the capacity to produce that many panels.
Is it that Samsung themselves don't have full trust on their own technology, that they're doubting their very own products?
If Super AMOLED or Dynamic AMOLED is that good as they are claiming it, then why aren't they producing a TV using that tech?

Correction: Quality OLEDs are made by two manufacturers Samsung and BOE

Except Samsung, Huawei and Apple the rest cant afford using oled for all their lineup.
Most of the chinese brands do not even use USB C and NFC for their sub $200 devices.
Oled is impossible, as long LCD keeps getting much cheaper.

Companies like Motorola, LG, Sony and Asus already lose money with LCD devices, if they use only oled they will lose more, unless they charge the difference which can be much more than $50.

XR was rather cut down in the display resolution department, but the panel itself is flagship level. At $750, it certainly isn't Apple's best offering from last year, and it should be noted for those who are buying it.
Android OEMs, on the other hand, are perfectly capable of offering OLED in the $400-$500 range, and it's just a matter of more manufacturers investing to the technology for it to get cheaper.
Besides, we have Japanese researchers who discovered a cheaper way of manufacturing OLED panels compared to the usual like Samsung's Super AMOLED or Dynamic AMOLED whatever you call it.
It might be more complex than Samsung's process, but the overall cost will be lower, and may even guarantee better quality panels as well.
IPS LCDs are slowly but surely dying in the high end market, and it'll just be a few years until the budget range also go full OLED. That's simply how technology works.

Apple, aka the trendsetter, is going full OLED in 2020, and as Chinese OEMs love to mimic whatever Apple is doing, I'm pretty sure they'd be offering some OLED smartphones in the budget segment in the future.
That'll be the case until LCD goes extinct, and the next upgrade from OLED will be microLED.
