Samsung is working on an under-display camera solution, aiming for the coveted all-display phone design

Apparently the new tech will share quite a few similarities with under-display fingerprint readers.

It will come to a point where people will stop buying phones it’s already happening too much none sense technology that isn’t really useful to anyone like under display scanner or under display camera why ? When you have phone had it all already I’m still using iPhone 8 cause I love the home button and the specs are just perfect what else I need I could do anything and phones became so good now to a point you can’t make them better

-----They are NOT solutions, rather they are PROBLEMS made by manufacturers for consumers to fix by themselves.

AT&T patented a CRT based camera hidden within the screen for a video phone. Apple also filed a patent based on a pixel based display, such as LCD where some pixels are light sensitive.

We will salute and say thank you very much for the under display camera when it's ready. This is the future of smartphones. Whether it be Samsung, Huawei, Sony, LG whoever will be able to provide the real all display technology, but I assumed that it would not be Apple, hahaha.

Granted quality isn't always about MegaPixels and the Samsung selfie is better in a number of ways. The tech that can be used in LCD punch holes allows for a smaller hole vs what's needed for the camera aperture - in part because there is no risk of light bleed from the screen into the lens as there is with OLED.

So you could still get a smaller hole on an LCD with the same selfie camera.

Been saying this pretty much since the notch was introduced:

Just put the damn camera in top bezel.

It's not just about the notches looking goofy and getting in the way of your content more intrusively than a thin bezel, it also has a practical drawback: when you hold the phone horizontally with both of your hands, lack of bezels cause unwanted touches with your palms.

Even if the under-display camera was made perfect on the first attempt (which usually doesn't happen with new inventions, see >>Galaxy Fold), it would still be just another price-bloater with very questionable practical benefit.

All the notches/waterdrops/punch-holes etc. are solutions to a problem that doesn't exist.

It's good to see technology constantly improving every year.

You gotta give credit to companies like Samsung & Huawei who are bringing the latest & greatest tech to smartphones.

I'll consider buying a Samsung phone with that innovation if they just stop using the same sensors since the Galaxy S7. Samsung should use the latest Sony IMX series of sensors like 5xx & 6xx, not 3xx.

The solution could be a mini projector that would calculate the top on screen and peoject it there. But that would require ultra wide beam and the glass would differ to the screen + the camera could reflect the layering required for the beam in the photos. Not sure how they want to achieve it, but lets see how the company brains would develop it 🙂

Perhaps the idea is to have a bigger aperture but to make the back of the subpixels opaque and rely on the light getting through the gaps.
It is not easy and one really wonders if it is worth it.
