If a person need 3.5 mm jack in a smartphone, he won't say that it's ok for any smartphone not to have it; and vice versa: if he doesn't need it, he won't say that it's bad if some smartphone doesn't have it; and so on with other examples.

Blast, 06 May 2019Xperia 1 is priced at €950, while the OnePlus 7 Pro starts ... moreYou're partially right, except there hasn't been any tests done to prove your point yet.
As you may know, Sony is doing great at battery optimizations, in which their XZ3 with its 3300mAh battery and QHD+ display scored 4h more than the S9+ with its 3500mAh battery and same screen resolution.
I'm sure they would not put a battery that wouldn't be sufficient for the technology.

[deleted post]Obviously, because your eyes are at least about 91cm away from those theatre screens, while you'd need to be upclose to your phone's screen to be able to read texts on it, and that's about 32cm away on an average, which is enough for an average person to discern differences in screen resolution.
And just before you call me the f-word, make sure you really know what I'm trying to say. Just because you think one thing's enough, doesn't mean that the better ones aren't necessary anymore.
Even if you can't tell the difference between 1080p and 4K, you'd still have to ask more, especially with the asking price of the device.

Boldy, 06 May 2019The Xperia 1 doesn't have a 4k display. It's around 1600p. ... moreYeah, not a true 4K panel, but still somehow above 2K.
Apparently it lacks the 'Premium' in its name, which could indicate that it's not yet their very best device this year, and I'm hopeful that a true 4K HDR 21:9 OLED smartphone comes out.

DavidB, 06 May 2019I agree with you on that. OP7 Pro is regular phablet and to... moreOf course, the OP 7 Pro packs more powerful stuff than the S10. Although, I wouldn't actually compare it to that, rather the S10+, which is still somewhat a lesser phone than the OP 7 Pro but more expensive. Tbh, the only good one in the S10 family is the S10e, being the most unique among all flagships with its size and a rather fitting price. Then again, the more proper phone to compare the OP 7 Pro to is the P30 Pro, and it's a tough decision between the two
Speaking of customer preference, I'm actually used to phablets too, but I'd still pick mobility/compactness because I always find myself in a situation where I just have to move more vigorously (don't ask) and the small screen... somehow gives better privacy in public, oddly.
Also, software can be based on preference too, because let's just say, I don't know what to expect in the fast updates, but that can be overlooked for OxygenOS's smoothness. On the feature side of things, there are always people here and there that prefer extras despite some clutter - and they know how to manage the clutter very well

Nicolas F, 06 May 2019Maybe because "bashing people" and "forgiving people" are t... moreUsually on internet the ones that bash A, B and C are same people that spare D, E and F for same reason they just bashed A, B and C....
No jack is a failure for A, but no big deal for D.
Full HD is too midrange-ish for B, but great for battery life on E.
HDR screen is gimmick on C, but awesome on F ..
So, in the end a feature (hardware or software) is useful or useless according to who has it, not according to what it is and what it is for.

Blast, 06 May 2019OnePlus 7 Pro gets 90Hz, HDR10+, UFS 3.0, 4000mAh battery, ... moreOP does not have non-certified IP rating.
It lacks the hardware, not only certification.
When a phone is dropped in the water and lacks IP rating does not mean it is going to die.
They can survive the same way phones with IP68 can die in seconds.
Xiaomi CEO said years ago that it would increase costs by 20%. So it is not just $30 like OnePlus claims.
Fun part is that all these years other brands were bashed for having tons of stuff and their phones above $700. Now OnePlus fanboys try to justify price above $700 with the presence of nee stuff.
Of course the fact Oppo and Vivo did this device already ( R17 Pro/ Nex S) makes everything cheaper for OP, since all them are siblings companies.
Dash comes from VOOC, OP uses design from previous Oppo phones.
This means periscope will be used next year by OP8 Pro.
People brag about 30, 40, 50W charging but dont seem to care if your battery after 18 months will still have more than 50% of original capacity. Current battery technologies have nearly 0% of evolution since 2013. They just get bigger.

OP7 Pro is regular phablet and to me OP 7 is maybe better more portable choice, but the specs are lower. On the other hand, the more time I spend with my phone I realize, how large screen is handy and I cannot image I go back to sizes of iPhone 6, Samsung S8. But that depends on customer taste. Still the OP 7 Pro will be a little cheaper and to me important with stock-like Android OS and fast updates.

OnePlus 7 Pro gets 90Hz, HDR10+, UFS 3.0, 4000mAh battery, 30W charging, 128GB or 256GB storage variants, stereo speakers, non-certified water resistance, less bloatware, SD855 and of course a full uninterrupted display.
Samsung Galaxy S10 gets 60Hz, HDR10+, UFS 2.1, 3400mAh battery, 15W charging, 128GB storage or 512GB storage variants, "Fast" 15W wireless charging, IP68 rating, 3.5mm jack, microSD, more bloatware, Exynos 9820 and of course an interrupted punch-hole display.
90Hz > 60Hz --> much smoother experience. Variable refresh rate, so will not be constantly 90Hz.
Both have HDR10+.
UFS 3.0 > UFS 2.1 --> much faster loading times, read/write speeds.
4000mAh > 3400mAh --> less heavy UI on 7 Pro, more efficient SoC (SD 855 S10 has longer battery life than Exynos S10) result in even longer battery life.
30W charging > 15W charging --> much faster charging times due to OnePlus' Warp Charge.
In my region the S10 128GB variant will cost the same as the 7 Pro with 256GB. Therefore I don't need a microSD card. After all, 256GB of storage is more than enough for me.
S10 gets 15W wireless charging --> Never used wireless charging, wired charging is much faster for me and will also be much faster on the 7 Pro.
S10 gets certified water resistance (IP68), while 7 Pro gets non-certified water resistance --> I am a very careful person and have never dropped my phone in water, and even if the 7 Pro gets wet, I know it can handle it, especially considering past OnePlus phones (6T) also being able to handle it.
3.5mm jack would have been nice on the 7 Pro, but at least we can get OnePlus' Bullets Wireless, which provide decent value for good quality. I don't use high quality headphones anyway, so the lack of the jack does not matter to me very much.
Less bloatware (OxygenOS) > more bloatware (OneUI) --> OnePlus has a less heavy UI than Samsung, thus having less bloatware and better optimization.
SD855 > Exynos 9820 --> SD855 is based on a 7nm process, Exynos is 8nm. S10 SD855 has longer battery life, makes better pictures and has a better GPU performance, while the Exynos S10 provides me with the opposite.
"Bezel-less" > Punch-hole --> Uninterrupted viewing experience on the 7 Pro is better imo. I don't use the selfie camera, so I don't care much about the durability of the pop-up camera.
Lets wait on some full resolution camera samples post-launch to compare the camera performance of the 7 Pro to the S10.
Looking at all this, I would much rather get the 7 Pro than the S10 for the same amount of money (7 Pro 256GB costs €749, while the S10 is priced at €749

But still you speak like someone with very specific needs. Tell me how many people want to transfer huge files daily/weekly? Not masses I guess.
Headphone jack is more "masses" thing, but still with BT 5.0 even chinese crap earphones I got from Aliexpress for 40 USD transfer audio in decent quality and almost no latency. No problem. And if I want no latency / great sound quality I just use adapter. If the phone has large battery such as OP7 then it's no problem to "not charge" for some time.
What I am trying to say is that Samsung f.e. does not do it better. The phone looks fancier by specs I agree but for daily use the difference is none and still Samsung is pricier.
