U can decide wether to cancel the portrait mod or leave it in less than a second. When the scene & timing is right, it creates beautiful portrait bokeh effects. What do Sony has? Background Defocus? That mode was a nightmare, never gets it right with ugly results. About Aperture mode on Huawei, u can even adjust the depth/aperture level & refocus bokeh area even after pictures captured. See? Experience. Thats all that matters. U seems to know a lot about Sony, but know nothing about Huawei. I own both of them & know exactly the differences.

Now i dont know wether to laugh or feel pity for you.

And base on my experience, pros are more onto Huawei, especially for the price. I'm a Sony fan, but not a blind one. The one who keeps denying is you, defending Sony for whatever they do. Look at where are Sony now in mobile phone world ranking?

You don't have to be a fan of a brand to buy something from them. Are you a fan of the t-shirt, shorts, slipper brands you are wearing? No, you buy them because they match your budget, just like your Xiaomi phone.
If you are a fan of a brand, you have to buy or own something from them. Because you like the brand's products.
              Simple. Logic.

Wow. I see a fight again.
As always happen in sony's threads

Dude, fanboying doesn't have any criteria for qualification.
I can show support in many other ways than purchasing those products, and that would easily label me as a fan, just like how Steve Jobs is a fan of Sony products without actually purchasing one, let alone using one.

If I'm not a Sony Xperia fan because I don't purchase their products, then does that mean that I'm a Xiaomi fan for buying a product from them?
There's a thing called 'circumstance' that must be considered.

[deleted post]So what do you want me to do? Praise them for doing very good with a disappointing product?
Everything has its ups and downs, and the fact that I'm saying this only defines how open-minded I am to other options available. I'm not like you who thinks that a brand loyal fan should only stick to what they like.
Time passes by, and changes definitely occur. No one's going to stay on top forever, so it's okay to change up a little bit if that's what will make one's life better.
Like I've said in my previous reply, being a fan of something doesn't prohibit a person to get other things, because it's his/her money, so it's his/her decision to get what he/she wants.

And on that note, I wonder why my fanboyism is being attacked right here. Clearly my preferences affect your lifestyle, and I feel bad for that.

Anonymous, 09 May 2019My old Xperia C could easily run Injustice. Phone came to... moreRight, but I really need something even more powerful.
My previous phone already had the Snapdragon 410 and by gawd was it a cooking machine!
It's not reaching my sister's LG G4 with Snapdragon 808, which is a bunsen burner in a human hand, but it's intense enough to prevent me from being productive with my phone.
Even running Mobile Legends on this Snapdragon 625 platform is already an intensive task, and would refuse to run in 60fps unless I lower the graphics to the lowest possible, like literally no animation at all.

Don't worry, my next one will surely feature at least a Snapdragon 845 already. Nope, not the Pocophone F1, but I'm waiting for Xperia XZ3 discounts until it finally goes down to my budget range.

Anonymous, 09 May 2019The problem of I see with mobile HDR is the fact it is fake... moreI like your analysis, but the point of Auto mode is to achieve great-looking results in just a matter of clicking the shutter key, and that's where Sony Xperias always falter behind in the past.
I would've wanted HDR mode to be available in Auto mode and could be tweaked to be turned on, off, or set to Auto trigger.

People with knowledge about photography like me would obviously use the Manual mode and achieve much better results, but the thing is that the majority of smartphone users aren't like us who know a thing about image quality, and that's why for Xperia cameras to appeal to people, then they must produce images that would impress them right away.
That's why the Nokia 9 PureView is heavily criticized to have weak camera performance, because its Auto function doesn't produce desirable results for the general consumers, even though it's a killer once it gets used in Manual mode.
On that note, I'm glad that Sony is finally adding full Manual controls in their camera app, as well as native RAW support for even better processing.
I see so much potential in their sensors, in fact I believe that a RAW sample from the Xperia Z2 that would be processed very well would beat the similarly processed RAW image of the Galaxy S10+.

And with that, it urges me to force Sony Mobile to use a much larger sensor this time, especially now that they've made a 1/1.7" sensor for Huawei, and it wouldn't make sense not to use a better one for their very own products.
They should worry no more about their Cybershot or Alpha line being cannibalized by Xperia flagships, because like you've said, a FF sensor will never beat the tiny dinky sensors of any smartphone bar none.

People don't buy or want Sony phones anymore. Sony is not even in the top 10 sales brands of phones.

The biggest challange for a camera is to show scene exactly like you see with your eyes.

For example , if sky is cloudy with 90% of white and 10% of light gray , then the photo should show sky this way.
Smartphones HDR/HDR+ will make the light gray darker because sky is getting underexposed.
DR increases with sensor size. Midformat has more DR than FF, FF has more than Apsc, Apsc has more than m43. All them will show sky with light gray, not like phones.

Something I find funny is many people see a photo with noise and judge before knowing if noise is bad software or the company decided to use less noise reduction to keep better texture.
Even professional cameras have noise on their RAW/Jpeg. A photo with zero noise will never exist.

Something else I would never do is to test phones on auto. Point and shoot pocket cams are not tested, why phones are? It is obvious that different settings will give different results.

It is dumb to compare A using 26mm/ 4x digital zoom vs B using 52mm/2x digital zoom. Of course B will win.
Phones without OIS will using more ISO to prevent blur, it will impact quality. You cant compare phone A iso250/shutter 0.5s vs phone B iso1000/ shutter 0.033s. Maybe if you set B iso250 it can do better than A, or A performs worse than B when both use iso1000.

Photos of different resolution need to be scaled to same, like gsma tool does. A photo may look ugly at 40MP, but looks excelent downscaled to 16MP.
A 12MP looks nice, but poor when upscaled to 16MP or seen on big monitor screen.

That is why I dont waste my time with those famous youtubers that compare phones. Always same talking about xolours and details in shadow.
Never about who has better AF in the many different conditions, nothing about luminance and digital noise, no alising, no moiré, no banding, no ghosting, no lens flare, no cromatic aberration etc ...

Walter C. Dornez, 08 May 2019I honestly hope it beats those threeIt's going to be a difficult one, since they all have insane HDR processing tricks, which is what many people, or perhaps just the tech journalists prefer, and I really hope the Xperia 1 would somehow match them in the dynamic range performance.
Detail wise, I wouldn't be expecting that much since Sony cameras are usually more detailed than their competitors, but I worry that it will falter in low light due to no software-enhanced Night Mode, which allows for handheld long shutter image withour blur.

Anonymous, 08 May 2019You could have bought even L1. Much better than Redmi. ... moreL1's SoC is kind of weak for gaming, which I often do with my phone. Definitely that will not be a sufficient performance for the next 2 years or so, and not to mention the inefficiency of the SoC.
I only bought Xiaomi because of better hardware, but overall, Sony is still ahead, and I really want Sony's software system better than MIUI, which is what I really hate about my Xiaomi phone the most, hence why I'm exactly looking for a different brand to replace it once it's finally time for me to upgrade.

So funny that... morehave you read the article? gsma is thinking the module, not just the lenses, is manufactured by zeiss because of the circuit ribbons with imprints associated to the german company. see, zeiss is indeed famous for its lenses, but they do manufacture full cameras as well as camera modules. the article also mentioned that the sensor used has indications that it could be manufactured by samsung. so, gsma did know the difference between lenses and sensors; you just did not read the article.
