I recently had to switch to a Note 9 from an XZ1 and the difference is real. XZ1 ran more smoothly, even booted faster. And I used same apps and same launcher on both.
For me what Sony phone need to stop removing features/apps , and to improve the Camera UI, it became better on Pie but still lag compared to other, but image quality and color are amazing, unfortunately the experience is not consistent.
OMG how much I miss the side FP....sorry this turned into a rant about the XZ1.

      Amazon Germany has already run out of 1 units. All sold.

      Sony was doing the XZ4. Looks like XZ4 was a XZ3 with dual cam and dual selfie.
      Guy from Alpha came and decided to start from zero.
      Then Sony made 1.

      I have no idea if 1 if the successor of XZ3 or XZ2 Premium.
      4K screen only does not mean this is main phone of this year's lineup.
      IFA device can be below or above 1, none knows.

      5040x2160 is not out of question. It will happen at some point . Probably february/2020.

When I see this result from whatsapp post from one of my friend, I keep laughing, but sad too because it is quite expensive too.

              To be fair, this will certainly not defeat the P30 Pro's camera system, not by a long shot with its massive sensor and insane periscope lens, but at best, the Xperia 1, for my expectations, should at least match the camera performance of the Galaxy S10+, Pixel 3 XL, and iPhone XS Max.

                    I'd take their cameras over the Redmi Note 7 Pro's 48MP Quad Bayer sensor, in which Xiaomi didn't fulfill the potential of the sensor and didn't exactly lived up to its hype.

                      I'm still a student and I'm not yet allowed to purchase a very expensive phone.
                      I have to keep mine for like another year or so, and hopefully I'd earn enough money to get a proper flagship phone, most especially a Sony Xperia if ever they manages to create a device that'll blow me away.

                        Not 16/32 Gb just for low ends, 32/64Gb for midranges and all flagships with 128 or more.

                        I want flagship with 32, 64 is acceptable too. No way I pay for 128Gb , when a 64Gb version would be $100 cheaper for us.

                          But I dont want huge storage.

                          M5 and X were the best midranges Sony did so far. Both were very close to be flagships.
                          X was as almost as strong as Z5, while M5 was between Z1 and Z2.

                          - X lacks IP68 and 4K recording
                          - M5 lacks stereo speakers , X reality and Triluminos

                          I would not mind to buy a Xperia midrange with SD630/632/636 if it had HDR screen, IP68, front stereo speakers and single 19MP imx400 f2.0, as long it has 32Gb. I'd even pay $500

                          It does not exist. And I could go to Amazon and get XZ1 for $250 , new and sealed box.

                                I think soccer fans put their treasured merchandises in great care and lots of assured protection, such as a cabinet, or back home on the wall of the owners room.

                                By the way, I buy Xiaomi this year (which I plan to use at least 3 or 4 years, hopefully). Not the best option I prefer, but the best compromise with the options I had in the market at the time of buying.

                                With phones, I feel it's more important to make sure it is usable to you for the purposes you bought it for an extended period of time than prioritising cult followings of the brand once loved for reasons they were once renowned.

                                    That is why I'd rather they (Sony in this case, because we're in a Sony related article, but the same can go for every other brand as well) keep a few lineup...
                                    example for Sony: a Premium and a Compact, and a rare occurrence a Tablet, plus one midrange phone that is downgraded from either one of the three.

                                    Imagine each of these just Three to Four lineup Per Year has all the storage options ranging from the lowest of the midrange bunch at 2gb ram + 16gb internal, 3gb + 32gb, 4gb + 64gb, 6gb + 128gb all this just on midrange. And then the flagship devices has all FOUR of these options and several more to top it off with 4gb + 128gb, 6gb + 256gb, 8gb + 512gb (the last one probably a Premium exclusive option).
