Anonymous, 22 May 2019Wow, Arm is an English company owned by a Japanese company.... moreSome patents related to ARM's design are from American company.

[deleted post]i think so too. tho i dont want if to arrive in that. but nontheless it is very big and massive hit for US.

Anyone who thinks Huawei can just "copy" newer ARM designs and sell them illegally is seriously mis-informed.

If nothing else it'll confirm that Huawei 'is' a lying, stealing, spying piece of crap and US was right to ban it.

About Apple influencing US decision, it's just wishful thinking. Because Apple kept raising it's iPhone's prices, it lost its profits in China by selling than fewer devices And apple never cared for market share anyway, only profits. Cook even blamed chinese market for apple missing it's targets. But let's face it, people all over the world are not rich enough yet, so that they could shell out increasingly large amounts of dough from their own pocket, in order to fill apples, and it was going to happen anyway.

But I do wish Chinese completely banning it. It would feel so much good.

So if this is happening, then even Google and Apple must have something to gain from that (Hint: Big corporations like them are not fighting for money, they are fighting for control...). Otherwise...well, the two combined would have more than enough power to stop that from happening.

And as mentioned, ARM isn't even a US company, so Trump himself can't have something to do with that, it's again the people with real power behind him.

China to tax the hell out of TSMC and Trump boys pays back China while buying their Snapdragon and Apple chipsets.

DrakeX, 22 May 2019Google ban? No problem, just set up alternative apps. Qua... moreAFAIK, the majority of the market, if not the whole market depends on ARM's technology in one way or another, meaning that technically no SoCs could be used at all - legally that is. I might be wrong though, but that's what I'm aware of.

So ARM cut their ties despite the 90 day allowance? Now I can say RIP Huawei, at least in the coming months if China-US can't sort their war out.

Rip huawei chips if they cannot find alternative

Google ban? No problem, just set up alternative apps.
Qualcomm ban? No worries, Kirin can do the job well enough.
Intel ban? A bit problematic but there's AMD.
ARM ban? Well, this is REALLY unsettling and just evil, considering current phone CPUs are fully dependent on ARM. Forget about x86, it's THE worst on mobile. Now Huawei will have to rely on existing SoCs. Let's hope they can withstand this tech war. Fight on Huawei!!

For once it will be interesting to see what happens but more than this the other companies Chinese or not must be very careful if Huawei does it well maybe they will have their own architecture and will look for an option to not depend of US, still, i think that all the credibility and the talk that US is free market country is just BS and this for sure will affect not only the relationship with China also will be with all the countries in the world
