MediaTek announces Helio M70 5G modem

The SoC is the first in the world with ARM’s Cortex-A77 CPU and Mali-G77 GPU.

I'm actually excited for this! Am I reading this right that this is the modem AND processor or am I reading it wrong and it's essentially a counter to the X55 modem?

    That's all cool and stuff but G77 MPwhat?
    Otherwise this is stunning... though if we think about it a bit deeper, Mediatek hasn't been THAT bad for a long period of time. Imho the downfall started when they pushed half-baked MT6735/6753 chips which were weaker (!) and slower than their predecessors, then the poor lil' Helio P10 (6755) and the X20 (6797) furnace, with silly 6580 (yay refresh!), 6737 and 6750 in the mix soon to follow. It kinda improved with the X30 (6799) and starting from the P20 (6757 and its numerous variants), imo you wouldn't have to feel sorry for Mtek at all. They're back :)
