I'm happy that Sony's mobile division finally seems to be doing well but as much as I want to like this phone I just can't. As a Verizon user the fact that a flagship Sony phone is compatible with my network is good news but at nearly $1K I could just get an S10+ and get an arguably better flagship

Only brands that make money off carrier sales are Samsung and Apple. Every other manufacturer only breaks even when they make a sale through carrier sales channels, even Huawei. They do it in hope they will saturate market enough so they could go back to carriers and tell them from now on our cut is this much.
Huawei does have interesting strategy, they give all the profits from Honor brand to carriers in hope that those users will upgrade to entry Huawei phone which then could make them upgrade to P line where Huawei actually makes money.

Its actually cheaper to buy from an online store on some 12/24mth credit deal, than meddle with operaters who give 24mth contracts, but in the end you end up paying much more for the device itself than from tech stores.

Will be interesting to see how this phone will sell, it's definitely Sony's best effort so far, let's hope they know how to market it and achieve their goal. Other brands sell much inferior products at premium prices for years because they know how to attract clients and have a good strategy, it's something Sony lost over the years by being a tad too rigid and conservative. The market is always changing, everyone must adapt and try to anticipate trends while being innovative and smart

Xperia 1 will be probably, as you said, availible in mid June. I have talked with many workers at carrier stores and some of them didn't knew that Sony still makes phones. They've said that situation with LG and HTC is basicaly the same. Because of lack of marketing by those firms, nobody knows that they are still making phones, particulary Sony.

Great job Sony. At least finally there are many improvement on Xperia 1 to competes with others.
Eventhough i'm using Huawei now, which is very satisfied for me, i'm still a fan of Sony. When the time is right & offer things as my needs, maybe i'm back to you. If the company comes back to SEA of course.
