I have to admit most important reason for apps getting crashed is because low RAM implementation on iOS devices.
Just look at crashes 5.0.1 crashes lot according to them which is majority of total platform with 256 MB RAM most of them (ipod 3rd/4th gen , ipad1 , 3GS).
And they implemented app switching and browser takes up lots of RAM of all.Even Anandtech reported memory flushing out quick and pages get releoaded constantly.
Anyway i seen crashes in other platforms too , 2.3 is very old and therefore stable , i am sure ICS also faces same issues because big transition period for android once ICS starts rolling to old devices and new ICS devices gets sold.

Does it mean it's more or less stable than an iPhone? I'm not ignorant enough to say that. It's like you said, both OS have their pros and cons, and it's up to each user to decide which is best for him/her.
I love Android and wouldn't use a iPhone even if someone offered me one. That doesn't mean Android is better... I know a salad is better for my health, but a burger tastes really good, so...
People should stop arguing which OS is better, really... That discussion is getting reeeally old...

first time using android mytouch 4g i had alot problem crashing,frezzing,foreclose but now using same phone and running 2.3.4 gingerbread. i say that was bad dream. i lov android.

Are you kidding me?
I've always have at least 15 apps running and don't get crashes, except when i'm using reverse tethering.
And you call 2 apps open smooth? LOL, that's TRUE multitasking powah from crApple...
All the widgets i'm using and apps, and i still get 2 or even 3 days of battery life, depending on how much free time i have at work to play on my Xperia Play.

Ha ha, iOS users think that if the OS doesn't pop a message saying that app crashed or force closed (like on Android) the apps don't crash =))
Apple is intelligent about this, when an app crash, the user isn't notified!!! The app is restarted, the event logged, and a report is being sent. Because why an iOS user should know why the app crashed, right ?!
Android is sincere about these things while Apple hides this from the users! MYTH Busted!

I used to have the original Moto Droid up until a month ago. I used to have a number of force closes on that device. I did have it rooted and had a custom rom on it. Since I got my GNex with ICS, I haven't had one force close. Not one at all now that I think about it. Pretty nice.

Let`s face it - both iOS and Android are fantastic systems and it`s only a matter of preference, which one you choose. You like to customize your user experience a lot and like hardware choices, go with Android. You like simplicity and unified experience combined with your Mac, iTunes envirinment - go with iOS. So just be happy that we don`t need to mess with Symbian and Windows Mobile 6 anymore and can enjoy user friendly smartphones with more apps we can digest these days.

I used the Samsung Infuse running on Android 2.2 and was disappointed that it kept crashing at least 1-3 times a week due to various apps. Glad to hear that AT&T has released Gingerbread update for the Samsung Infuse though..I'll try updating it to see if it resolves the crashing issues.
My second phone, the Samsung Galaxy S2 LTE works great...no freezing, no crashing at all using the same apps. It uses Gingerbread OS, so I am chalking it up that the Gingerbread OS works better on the S2 platform and the duo-core processor inside.

Its not true, very rarely it happens and is due to aps bug not iOS. iOS is the best OS.

I left Android due to "Force Close" apps mainly whilst looking for mp3 players with good surround sound..I have had a no crashes with IOS but been 50 yrs old i dont use these social network sites that they say causes crashes..IOS runs consistently smooth consistently whereas android is hit and miss unless using standard tested by manufacturer.I hate to say this but symbian is the most problematic even tho used it since 2003.
I was quite shocked in a way to read this news with my iphone 4s working fantastically even with 2 apps open.In fact its only when i go to close the web browser at night that i find all these apps open in IOS and quite ridiculous that it keeps working smoothly.I cant wait to see how all the others react when they read this news cause ive just got in from workand others are still at work,plus some o fthe world is in bed due to time zones.

i have iphone 4 and sgs2.both are stable.please do not install unproven apps and you will be ok!

Hmmmm intresting, I have had some apps crashed on my iphone's... in arouind the 3 years i have been using iOS that is.
Though when i was playing angry birds one time last year it crashed and took me back to the home screen once...but thats it really..its certainly the most stable OS I have used on a mobile device.
My Galaxy seems to need a battery pull about once a month at some point but to be honest it does have a far more demanding interface, i mean all them live time widgets running at once does make my home screen a wee bit laggy but it more than worth the odd crash here and there for the convenience of androids short cuts and widgets...there great :)
My ipad is the niggle of my life though....cash.com!

All apps crash sometimes. Usually ones using a lot of RAM or needing RAM that isn't available. A lot of people have multiple apps running at the same time and then one of their apps crash and they think that the whole platform is unstable. It's silly. Also it's only natural now that android phones have more stability because they are being pumped will RAM and Ghz processors while apple is still stuck on 512mb and so forth. Mobile phones are not infinitely capable and if they are going to run apps and programs that laptops and computers are running then they should have 2ghz processors and 4 gb of RAM. Which they don't. Hence the crashing. I think that apple users believe that their iWhatever is unique and all powerful because it was marketed well and has a smooth clean look but in the end it has limits and frankly is not catching up with android phones/software. I used to have this mentality until I opened my bias up to reality and that is that having multiple companies using the same OS makes innovation much faster than one device and one OS.That's why apple is behind and let's not even mention Blackberrry.
