Is the Nokia N8's successor to be the last Symbian device ever?

Joshua, 05 Feb 2012WP might be stable and fluid system, but it's not user frie... moreI agrees with you on some of these points, but this does not detract from the overall experience.
- no flash support - Essentially malware with all the bugs it has and soon will be obsolete in the face of HTML5 (even Adobe is stopping development).
- less number of apps than android market - It's a much newer OS. Since release, it has grown faster than the Android OS did over the same time period. It took 6 months before most people even knew what Android was - let alone become a household name.
- The rest of the points are true, and are a bit of an inconvenience, but the platform model MS is trying to follow is more like iOS than Android - hence the 'closed-off' content model.

And yes, I have experienced both iOS and Android, and I wasn't implying they were the same. Sure Android has more features and mods than iOS, but they both essentially have a flat menu that you pull up that shows icons of all your apps - no 'live icons' or anything (Android actually does offer much more with widgets and custom shells compared to iOS). I understand that some people find Windows Phone a bit simplistic in terms of GUI, but that by no means makes it a bad OS.

Marcial, 05 Feb 2012Albert, windows is not good because it is open application ... moreFirstly, the current revision of Windows Phone is built on the Windows CE kernel rather than the Windows NT kernel of the desktop OS - so there is no compatibility of viruses between the two. Secondly, applications on Windows Phone are not allowed direct access to certain parts of the OS or first-party applications (unless interop unlocked), thus limits any effect the virus can have on your device. Lastly, Android is full of malware - I recently read that over 5 Million users were affected by a virus recently.
Remember, it's not so much the architecture of the OS that attracts 'black hats' to write viruses and malware for platforms, it's the market share. Who would write a virus that only goes after the 10% of the market, when you could write a virus that could possibly affect 90% of the market?

An original GUI doesn't mean it's ergonomic. In the case of WP7 in fact it is quite the opposite. It still has a LONG way to go in order to match either Android or ios. Had you had experience with either of these you would be able to tell.
Also most people here will agree that Android and ios are quite dissimilar.

Went from S60 to WP7, haven't looked back. Looking forward to grabbing a Lumia 800 when it comes out here and wouldn't ever consider a Sym^3 handset for myself.
WP7 is great, but MS and Nokia (and the rest) need better marketing as well as incentives for salespeople.

First, it is much more an original design and idea than iOS and Android combined - we've all seen those style GUIs for years. Secondly, if you actually use Windows Phone you would find it really fast and efficient and not 'clumsy' -In fact, my very own grandma could use the GUI.

Nokia has to make Tablets as well. It doesn't matter if they run windows 8 or WP8. They have to make them in order to offer a more complete retail package of products. Chances are they'll need to move to Windows pc manufacturing as well (the booklet 3g was an earlier attempt) in order to compete with the likes of Samsung, Apple and Sony.

Marcial, 05 Feb 2012Albert, windows is not good because it is open application ... moreandroid is an open source software, every version other than 3.0 was released to all developers and there has been little monitoring of the applications that get submitted to the android market until recently, however each manufacturer often has their own market place, such as amazon app store and samsung apps.
windows phone and iOS are not open source and are not allowed to be modified by any developers (nokia aside for WP) their apps are also checked by real people to avoid potentially threatening applications.

Dont't companies usualy release new products before they anounce the discontinuation of the old ones?
This is the second time they've done this and it's really strange...

I left Symbian due to its low support on apps, and sloowww is, it could have been better if they put fast CPU, functionality was very good though. And why did they implement phones with no auto focus? C7,E7...bed marketing strategy! One thing though never set foot on Android! Never! Over bloated OS...got windows phone now, I'm happy with it, you may not have 8mp cam, but what's important is the auto focus. If you need 8mp and higher go get a camera! Oh by the way windows phone is fast and smooth and I like Zune, its clean and organize...oh yeah the apps and games are more than enough in terms of quantity and high quality! I don't mind spending, it gives you a sense of ownership not some cheap free buggy and full with annoying adds.

The way things go Nokia will be reduced to a minor competitor in the business. Windows phone is uninspired, clumpsy and an ultimately unresolved Mobie OS. Do they even have a Tablet Stradegy? Where is their new product line up??
Nokia will fail due to their lack of vision.
