Livid, 05 Jul 2019Well said and well done. A Sony fanboy talking the truth is... moreNo phone is worth the price tag of 1000, no phone.
Also buying a phone months afterwards it's release you will also have many stability updates on it by then so it would work as it should. Not to mention being much cheaper.
I like Sony, I really do. And the Xperia 1 seems to be a great phone but, I don't like it doesn't have a headphone jack, it doesn't have bezels, it has this weird aspect ratio, it has an oled screen that tends to burn pixels after a year or two of use, it doesn't have proper front facing stereo speakers like my XZ Premium has etc.
But that's me though. I love XZ Premium and it has everything I want, it's the best phone for me, minus the missing fm radio, of course.. which is something I used to enjoy on my Z5, and no company really has a reason to take it away! It is supported by Snapdragon so what gives mobile makers??
So no I'm not a blinded Sony fan, I'm simply a fan. And seeing Sony becoming as generic and boring as the other companies with the removal of features, and gimmicks like the 2 app use (something that anyone can do since android 8) and HDR video recording. You can simply enable a log profile on a camera app that supports log profiles and voila!! You can now record videos with insane dynamic range as well now, on any phone!!
No phone worths that price tag. If a phone maker made a phone with practicality as a priority, I would consider getting a new one. My current phone has a very important feature for me Xperia 1, galaxy s10, p30 pro and all the new phones etc doesn't have, an eye-catching all around shinning design, and a very important, widely known and practical, headphone jack.
Minus the fm radio.. of course.. AND THERE IS NO WAY AROUND IT other than online fm radio! Which sucks if you aren't on a WiFi.

Ali Bashir, 04 Jul 2019Nobody said Crap, it either none essential or not practical... moreAbsolutely wrong on all your comments. Sony made these changes to catch up with the opposition. This is what the public wants. These are all improvements. Sony is always 2/3 years behind in technology. FYI, LCD screens have as many problems as Oled, including burn in. And Sony doesn't make any Oled screens for phones, nor does JDI or Joled. Sony is buying Oled from LG and/or Samsung....And you are the one that always lies about Sony being the first with water resistant phones and stereo speakers. Sony only copied these features. Same as Sony copied Slow mode video. Why are you so desperate to lie and promote Sony ? These phones are well outside your financial means....And I have a professional job involving world travel at least 10 times your wage and you have never travelled outside your country.

Ali Bashir, 05 Jul 2019Dear Denis, i am not sure if you are the same old "Denis XD... moreThat's me yes. Not having a Z5 anymore though.
You are wrong because Sony wouldn't have OIS in X1 atm if they believed that. Take a look at XZ3 which produced really good lowlight photos, but with a lot of noise. Put it side by side with p30 pro and the p30 pro may look like it takes the lower quality pictures, but that's sharpening and noise added to the mix.
I don't know what happens with a different camera app though. Because Sony's stock app is not as good as the other's stock apps. Open camera is a better one for example, minus Sony's awesome noise reduction of course.

Denis Thomas, 04 Jul 2019OIS debating were about lowlight photography, it is not the... moreDear Denis, i am not sure if you are the same old "Denis XD" the z5 owner, the OIS is not the ideal for lowlight photography please allow me to explain.
OIS stabilizes the lense eliminating the shaking to keep the lense steady and allows the camera to use low shutter speeds resulting in less blurry or blur free pictures with amazing details right? NO! Because it will not make the moving objects steady resulting in significant amounts of blurs, relying on long shutter speeds is a big mistake, in fact, Sony ignored OIS for a long time because they were looking for what i am talking about, being the camera able to take great photos with higher shutter speeds, a camera that cannot take a decent lowlight photo with at least 1/16 shutter speed is not a capable lowlight shooter.

Ali Bashir, 04 Jul 2019Nobody said Crap, it either none essential or not practical... moreOIS debating were about lowlight photography, it is not the solution and never been.
"Well in smartphones it's important. In video stabilization Sony never needed OIS but in photography we always were somewhat behind because we didn't had OIS others had.
Oled screens
"Now this is something Im still against. As their panels have the tendency to burn the pixels and as screens they blow out the black to absolute. When in real life, 100% black is nowhere to be found. With LCD you have real life black and during movies you see details even at the darkest scenes. Also Sony provided some really awesome LCD screens. Having the XZ Premium I tweaked the calibration to d6500 and in RGB mode with video enchantment off everything looks natural. I can't go back to oversaturated screens really.
Curved screen it is and was never a good idea in fact the xz3 carved were a deal breaker for a lot people and the result is the none curved display of the Xperia 1.
" I agree. This curved thing on phones is ASKING to get the screen broken.
Multiple cameras, all the debating were about how embarrassing the results of the multi-camera smartphones against the single camera smartphones like Sony and Google pixel.
"Yep, pixel says hi.
Small bezels, it was the obsession in smaller bezels, like the way to the moon, in fact bezels are there to stay.
"I'm a fan of bezels too. They are just practical for sensors and stereo speakers and stuff, as well as during gaming they provide a better grip of the phone.

Nick Tagataka, 04 Jul 2019Does the display support 120Hz refresh rate? Probably yes. ... moreUmm you probably can? For example I can record 4k videos with professional log profiles with my XZ Premium, and also record videos with its front facing camera in 4k.
These are not options with its stock camera app.
So dig into the whole 120hz thing and you'll find a way to unlock it. I mean there are alternatives that gives you features other phones have, that your phone doesn't officially have. So taking this into account I'm possitive you can enable the full 120hz of the Sony phones.
Why i don't do it? I don't see the wow factor of it. Although watching the appropriate content I see sometimes smoothness in movies I don't see on my TV. Meaning that my XZ Premium is using its 120hz when it feels like it.

Livid, 04 Jul 2019Exactly, you don't know. Yearly flagships has been the norm... moreI agree. I would never spend more than 500 on a phone. I always go after what was a flagship about a year ago with its price being quite the deal. XZ Premium costs under 350 as we speak. Considering what it offers it's an absolutely awesome deal.
I never understood the need to always get the newer and better and better?
For example I wanted the XZ Premium to be mine the day I watched it's revealing. After that no other phone managed to make me want it, no matter what new it was offering.
I'm changing phones every 5 years, even longer if what I'm having still works as it should and it keeps me entertained.
For example, I just found out that you can record 4k videos with the front facing camera of the XZ Premium with open camera. So here's something new to dive into.
So yeah, you are absolutely right. Side note? No phone is worth the 1000 price tag. Because it will simply be half the price a few months afterwards..

Oled screen unfortunately Samsung gave us huge bad reputation over OLED displays through the years in terms of reliability no mentioning its day to day performance, Sony and some other companies proved otherwise in day to day performance but the reliability we are counting.
Curved screen it is and was never a good idea in fact the xz3 carved were a deal breaker for a lot people and the result is the none curved display of the Xperia 1.

i am hoping the 16:9 is true. no rounded corners or cutouts bullshit. just plain normal screen for normal people. xz2 and xz3 were 18:9 but xz 2 premium kept 16:9 ratio so this could be the next premium.

Ali Bashir, 04 Jul 2019Obsolete? Behold, the top features of the next smartphone o... moreSony sells camera sensors to other manufacturers, it might also hold patents on some other technologies e.g. batteries.
But other than that, hardly anyone buys Xperia phones these days. In many countries, retail presence and/or carrier support is non-existent. And Sony Mobile is only focusing on Europe, Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan now.
Sony on a whole still makes a lot of money, but its mobile business has been bleeding money year after year. And it's not going to get better.
Facts are facts.
