It did not survived due to Nokia's approach to become Apple when clearly Nokia was better.
It was a smartphone without proper software support and they forced users to buy from their own app store which was in straight word bad.
Old Nokia 6630 and 6680 could do things 5800 and similar OSed sibling could not.

My first touch screen phone. Loved the stylus input. I already owned a pocket pc so stylus input seemed natural. The sat nav was great. The screen seemed very resilient to abuse. Great phone at the time but hasn't aged well.

Great article summarising the touch screen era.
I owned Nokia 5800 and Nokia N900 and I can tell you Maemo OS was way advance than Android and IOS.
I feel sad that the efforts of super great engineering and something extraordinary got lost.
Now, we are sticking to Google and Apple dominance.
I have treasured Nokia N900. Respect to Nokia Maemo team.

Hello Life, 14 Jul 2019Which feature are you talking about? My Android dont allow me to install apps in microSD without affecting internal storage. I mean, the apps and the data totally in microSD, and avoiding my internal storage out of memory. Besides that, my recent android couldn't waken up whenever I set the alarm and then turned the device off (Maybe My phone couldn't, and the another phone could. Correct me if I'm wrong).

I still have Nokia 5230 for home use that belongs to the same family and build as 5800 XpressMusic. They never had to advertise for their build quality, people bought them, realized it by using them and spread the word automatically. However, they are lacking this build quality on the current trend of android phones, despite advertising like built out of solid metal block, etc. they are very sensitive. My Nokia 5230 laughs at the dents present on my Nokia 7 Plus.

Don't know other things, but believe me, the Nokia phones at that time had great quality build unlike Samsung's pathetic build today. If Nokia would have adopted Android at that time i bet Samsung and other manufacturers were still following the footprints of Nokia but wouldn't be able to compete with it.

It would be nice if they bring back the XpressMusic with Hi-Res DAC on their new android phones.

So, you made an article on downsliding of Nokia, without mentioning the word "US", "American Domination" and "Stephen Elop"??
I purchased a Nokia 808 Pureview in 2012 and if I remember, millions did! So, what is the death you're predicting in 2008?
What we got from Nokia is a nonintrusive, privacy focused, reliable OS alongwith excellent quality of camera and music, that's something I would get even today, if I get a choice.
GSMArena, sorry but you disappointed me with this sugar coated bullcraip.

Darn it, I got excited that Nokia was going to re-release it's XpressMusic series after skimming over this title. Oh well.
