Flashback: Nokia 5800 XpressMusic - the little touchscreen that couldn't

14 July 2019
The phone was commercially successful and reasonably well-liked by fans, but it was a herald of the end of Nokia as a smartphone maker.

this was my second phone, also the express music edition(after i lost my first one),it was my first hand me down phone and i looooooved it honestly, loved it's speakers(surprisingly loud for that time),but it had bad touchscreen, good for time(loved the pen though)also kinda my first phonewith internetXD(although rarely used it at that time)

Might be just me and a bit of a stretch but I feel like Samsung's one UI adopted some symbian visuals and navigations. Coming from a symbian phone to android, the squircle icons and the "child-ish" design is kinda reminiscent. But all similarities ends there haha. We've come a long way and it's been just a decade or even less in this case.

That was a cool Nokia phone. I remember that phone. I hope you can talk about the Nokia N95, N82, N8, and N9 next. Toss in the Palm Pre, Sony Ericsson Xperia X1, and Play.

It would be cool if OEMs can reboot old designs again. The 2000s designs were more interesting. Not the redundant glass slabs of today that all look the same. Looking forward to the 2019 Motorola RAZR.

"It was like a DOS app with mouse support – it worked, but it wasn’t Windows."

As an owner of the 5800, I must say this was the most apt description of the touch interface, and I realized how inferior my phone's touch interface was only after using colleagues' iPhones and Androids.

3.5mm Jack Fetishist, 14 Jul 2019Oh yeah need to add: Day One DLC, it's like the 3.5mm jack ... moreDay-1 DLC is messed up. Didn't you have enough time to include it in the base game?

The worst are lootboxes. Why won't you let me buy what I actually want? No I don't want to pay 100 bucks to have a 2% chance to get what I want! No I won't buy 5 packs for the super special limited price of 399$! These have absolutely no cost to you! Why would I pay for this gambling?!

Fall of Nokia was fall of technology
Nokia's tech was way ahead of others
                      &
their meego & meamo operating systems were a revelation
sad they had a pathetic people taking decisions
Microsoft made it vulnerable & took over it

Could have just switched to android
                        or
even hired developers to support the platform
                        Google did that
                        &
                        Nokia Lost

I bought in 2010 and survived until last year when my brother charge the phone all night long for almost every night. Before it, I used it for almost five year before I bought an android, and keep it as a secondary one. Very reliable and have a good built quality, but the touchscreen was not the best. I Love Symbian , even until now, there are some feature that Android doesnt have.

I used this phone.I do love this phone phone.

I had one, which I loved very much. The build quality was excellent, the audio quality was outstanding, but the interface and touch were horrible.

I was in highschool when my parents gifted me this gem. This has made me looking for good quality audio in a phone. The speakers on this thing are really awesome. I am rocking an lg device now just because of it's audio capabilities. Damn I miss my nokia 5800 XpressMusic.

Now it only this phone could be released with Android and modernized midrange specs... I guess HMD would be more awesome if they revive these old Nokia designs instead of just following others...

This is the first expensive cellphone I bought from my own salary. I immediately sold a week later because the resistive touch screen changed shape.

Instead of a full development cycle, you can get extensions to the game and enjoy it more. As long as the main content isn't cut in half, I'm ok with DLC. Like BOTW. You can fully enjoy this masterpiece without the DLC, but the DLC adds a lot of cool stuff and extends the gameplay.
