Rumor: Google is ready to fully embrace 2017, fitting the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL with 6GB of RAM

18 July 2019
It's a very small step for humanity (and the mobile world), but a huge one for Google.

Nnamdi Bond Alex, 19 Jul 2019Not sure about this being bashing, but, true: excellent article.Yeah, but someone still needs to start bashing. I guess that will never happen, because people are so easily fooled into thinking that companies know better about what they want than they themselves.
"oh, all phones have 8 GB RAM, but if Google puts 4 GB of it for the same price, it's ok. They must have done some magic where 4GB=8GB, even though multiple reviews have confirmed slowdown after 6-18 months of use".
"All phones have a max of 512GB or even 1TB of inbuilt storage, but if Google wants to keep 128GB as max storage, I guess its ok, because I like paying for phone, then also I like to pay more for cloud storage. Essentially I like paying twice for doing the same damn thing".

Lol, fanboys I tell ya.

People on GSMArena in 2021:
Ugh, Pixel 6 with only 16GB ram? My OnePlus 9 Pro has 32GB, how laughable. Pixel is horrible value now.

(Just a joke y'all)

Shui8, 20 Jul 2019The apps killing on EMUI can be controlled, mind you. On default... moreFor the prices those ones charge, for maxing purposes, and for future proofing its worth it.
Expecting less than 6 or 8 at this point in any device less than 400ish is just foolish in one form or another

Peachy001, 20 Jul 2019They are, and the other guys are close enough on camera quality.... moreEven theit camera is not top. People belived it with the 3, but that was mainly hdr. It did lead in hdr and was neck and neck. But did not trump all in technical quality.

VectorR, 20 Jul 2019Huawei Mate 20 Pro with 6GB RAM does the same things. The apps killing on EMUI can be controlled, mind you. On default factory settings, yes its harsh.

I can definitely see multitasking slow down / killed between 4gb and 6gb of ram. 8gb is the max that i approved, future proof for another 3 years. More than that is ridiculous.

VectorR, 20 Jul 2019Huawei Mate 20 Pro with 6GB RAM does the same things. So you saying it's Google shitty software optimization problem, not RAM problem on the pixel 3, right?

Anonymous, 19 Jul 2019I'm using Pixel 2 XL, Apps especially Music app could'nt run in ... moreI use the 2xl also, would be a better device with 6GB. So many background apps have to reload. Deezer works fine though, never had any issue with music playback. 6GB may not be "needed", but it should be essential for a £900 phone. Table stakes. Same with great camera, wireless charging, ample onboard storage, particularly if they don't include a flash carsd memory slot. Any other opinion is like arguing that a Rolls Royce shouldn't have a sterio. These are basics for a high end. Don't like it, buy a Pixel 3. We really should demand more of £900 phones.

[deleted post]OK, so why did Samsung release Galaxy A9 with SD660 and 8GB RAM in 2018?
