Rumor: Google is ready to fully embrace 2017, fitting the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL with 6GB of RAM

18 July 2019
It's a very small step for humanity (and the mobile world), but a huge one for Google.

Side point but be great if it had a

    * T9 key pad option for messaging

i don't know why people brains are washed out with more ram.... more ram for what.. to run dolphin emulator.. I guess no play store applications use more than 2 and for high quality graphics 3 ... my phone is a lg g5 sure old by now days but ...I don't need more than 4gb of ram my device runs fast and games are smooth ...
rather than ram id like to see better cameras we use that.. a clear sound with good bass,
better screen technology...better design almost 90% of phone looks the same ...better battery life is a shame that flagship has lesser battery than low end devices ... and of course on time os updates for me ram and an exaggerated amount of storage is useless

Most of the comments here showing pixel users....and others...just as easily fooled and and just as foolish sounding as apple users.

Oh you don't need more than 4gb. It's perfcet. Anything more is a waiste....
Or oh if the system is optimized enough....

First off its clear that you can benefit from more.
Second it doesn't matter if you think it's adequate the point is they are charging a price that demands at least 6 if not 8gb with the pixel 3. Let alone the 4.
Along with missing many other features for the price.
And if you claim you don't need any of those features or battery capacities....then why are you paying for them????

Get a budget phone with one camera, 2-4gb ram, and smaller battery.
Despite being cheaper the pixel is more over priced than a samsung because of how much less is in it hardware, software, advertising, accesories, and r&d.

And hate to break it to you, but just like with ios...its nowhere near as perfectly optimized as you think. Keeping things minimal and adding a little work to that is not optimizing that much.

Well, not even Apple was that brave to do this move up to now.

6GB RAM feels like a greedy decision for around $1k phone in 2019. Less than 3500mAh battery on Pixel 4 will be a failure straight away as well as just 2x optical zoom. Design is OK but could be better. Don't expect revolutionary, DSLR-like photo quality. It would be great though :).

Anonymous, 19 Jul 2019I have 8GB and 2.5 free.....RAM is cached. So thinking that 5.5GBs of your RAM is being used by your apps is foolish. Linux is designed with caching in mind. 4Gigs of RAM is still enough.

I think 4 GB of RAM is anemic for Pie but can suffice with older versions of Android like Nougat or older.

All I know is my LG G5 doesn't do that memory leaks and won't refresh the YouTube app after coming from my Kiwi browser. And I see over 70% RAM usage on Nougat. I've seen it refresh a few times but not as often as my Pixel 3 where I see 66% RAM usage. I tend to copy and paste stuff from the browser to the YouTube app and that's when I see the most refreshes. I get more RAM left and Pixel 3 still refreshes more.

Waiting for Google to go 12 GB. At their pace, that could take until 2023 if a Pixel 7 even sees the light of the day since Nexus/Pixel products are niche anyway. They rarely sell even they start off at $299.

Anonymous, 19 Jul 2019Ok. Who cares? 6GB of RAM is not that bad.6gb would be perfectly adequate imo. Any more would be arguably too much and increases costs all round for consumer and producer. As long as the performance issues are gone then Google will have taken steps forward.

Then there's just the small matter of putting in an actual decent sized battery into the phone like competitors, high storage versions, SD 855+ so it isn't behind Samsung and co, UFS 3.0 like OP7, wide angle lens which is genuinely useful, fixing software issues once and for all with Bluetooth, lag, slow downs over time etc, dual speakers and an upgrade in charging speeds.

They got it all to do...

Note7 owner, 19 Jul 2019Rather have 4g of ram on a pure android google phone than 6... moreRather have 6|8gb of ram on other phone and not 4gb on pixel which kills background apps to the point where even Spotify or Apple music can't play in the background. Or where the UI lags and slows down over time because there's not enough ram.

Google pixel. Number 1 in disappointing consumers.

I bet they will use 2017 RAM but with 2021 pricing. Good luck that one. I don't know why they bother. Pathetic.

The million dollar question: is it going to have a 5g modem?

im using my pixel 2 xl its got 4gb but runs smoothly never had any issues with the performance for my needs tbh.but the 6gb will b a welcome upgrade indeed.
