Hardware/Persistent software buttons?FP reader >>> any silly gesture/motion navigation/face unlocks.

These phones are one fall away from a visit to the repair center.

Zendroid, 29 Jul 2019None of you guys heard of Samsung galaxy s4? That's what pi... moreDon't compare that stupid Photo aka "face" unlock (from like Android Ice Cream Sandwich which can pretty much be easily bypassed by a picture) to real "face unlock" that uses 3D depth sensing via ToF cameras or IR dot projectors.

But sure, FaceID is pretty much a miniaturized version of the Xbox Kinect. Unfortunately, Pixel 4 is not the first one to have it on Android, as pretty much the Mate 20 Pro first had it.

[deleted post]Well, it's a beta, of course it can have bugs.
        F*ck logic

It has two (2) IR Cameras? So it'll be like stereoscopic vision (similar to human eyes) for better depth sensing. Hopefully it'll be as secure it claims to be.

At least it doesn't have an ugly notch this time.

I think this feature can be very useful, very often i found my self struggling to change a song on my phone or the Bluetooth headset with my hands covered in paint. I hope thay will continue fo refine the hands free gestures where the s4 left.

If you go that way than every phone is a copy of the IBM 1994.
Go check your car, refrigerator, tv, gaming console, headset, or any electronic you own,are thay that unique with features that no other brand has ever copied? No!

Well if they ditch the fingerprint sensor then instant skip.

And i've waited months for the pixel 4!!

Such a huge relief Google forgoing the under display scanner, ever single implementation by anyone so far has been rubbish, unless you can place your fingers anywhere on the screen and it can unlock as fast and consistently the normal finger print scanner it's just sub par and not worthy of being used. Better to have it on the power button like Sony than ud and inconsistent and ugly.

Google, thanks for not using a notch in this one! Thanks a bunch!

I however used the LG G6 and I really miss the great wide angle shoots I was able to fit on a single photo, it was far more useful to me personally.

I agree with you though, once you get used to either of these, it's hard to go without them, but at the end of the day, it all goes down to what's trending and what the majority of people would want to see. We'll see what Google thinks in October :)

Had a go at the Reno 10x Zoom for a short review and now i realize how much i miss having a wide angle and more importantly, the periscope zoom. So much that i'm giving up getting the Note 10 and waiting for the S11 now.

No, not at all in my opinion. Tele cameras have the purpose to give you more details of distant objects. That's not possible with digital zoom. Even Google's software zoom isn't significantly better than digital zoom.
Furthermore tele cameras let you increase the distance between you and near objects, so you get less perspective distortion and still the same amount of details.
Ultra wide angle cameras have the purpose to give you a wider field of view. That's possible with a panorama. Often you can also go some steps backwards. One will rarely need an ultra wide angle camera, whereas a 50mm camera can be used for everything (landscape, animals, portraits, sports, ...).

Why don't they use ToF camera? As far as I know it can also be used for face unlock and requires no additional sensor and motion sense does not seem too useful, it better for objects we use from far away like TV, sound system, projector maybe even a kitchen tablet

Poor decision. I definitely prefer a fingerprint reader. It is not known how dangerous/non-dangerous the electromagnetic infrared and radar radiation is. We simply don't know all mechanisms.
